The Anglo-Celtic Plate 100km Home International Team Race will take place at Redwick near Newport, South Wales on 31st March 2018.  England Athletics continues to value the Anglo Celtic Plate Home International and the role it plays in developing English athletes at a distance beyond the Marathon.

Since 1 April 2017 the Club Support Manager (CSM) role has been integral to the day-to-day running of England Athletics, particularly with regards our work in supporting our affiliated clubs.  The role of the Club Support Manager is to work strategically as part of a local team to provide high-quality support and guidance to a number of affiliated clubs and groups in their patch.

England Athletics is launching a new partnership with DW Fitness First, the UK’s leading gym and retail company. As part of this we have launch events taking place in Gateshead and Manchester. These events include activities with people such as international athlete Laura Weightman and coaches David Lowes and Phil Nichol.

On the 4th April 2018 the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will be getting underway on Australia’s Gold Coast.  Last month, Team England announced which athletes had been selected to take the 75 allocated places on the athletics squad, and those athletes will now be preparing for what is considered the competition pinnacle for England representative teams. We will be catching up with various members of the squad as they set their sights on next year’s event in Queensland.

Duchy Athletics Network builds track racing numbers Duchy Athletics Network builds track racing numbers

A series of events in the South West has been used to see a rising number of people taking part in endurance races on the track.  The Duchy Athletics Network was formed in 2009 when four of the largest running and athletics clubs in Cornwall, supported by the Cornwall Sports Partnership, bid for funding to ‘provide a forum for promoting athletics in Cornwall; to engender partnership and participation in the sport and to increase capacity and professionalism of clubs, volunteers and officials’.

This webinar aims to help sports professionals and volunteers, specifically coaches, working with athletes of all ages and abilities to detect possible eating problems at an early stage as well as looking at subjects such as how coaches can contribute to reducing the eating disorder risk and how coaches can support athletes who are currently experiencing eating problems.

No-one could have predicted the snowball effect that stemmed from Nick Taylor’s decision to give his time to the Athletics and Running Community. Co-founder of Didsbury Runners based in the North West, Nick has inspired many to take up volunteering through his enthusiasm and dedication. And this year he has been awarded with the England Athletics National Volunteer of the Year award in recognition of his determination.

Important information for clubs about General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Important information for clubs about General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

A change in government legislation regarding data protection called The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be in place from 25th May 2018. Athletics and running clubs will have to ensure that they are compliant with the new Government regulations. England Athletics has produced guidance for affiliated clubs and associations to help with identifying the key areas that they should be addressing as a result of the additional requirements arising from the upcoming introduction of GDPR.

The runbritain Medical Advisory Group are soon going to begin a review of the current runbritain Medical Guidelines document.  The Medical Guidelines were produced to assist race organisers in ensuring that they have adequate medical provision at their races.
