The 2026-2028 UKA Rules of Competition now apply across the sport, and there have been some key changes to age groups and the competition year that will apply for the first time this coming cross country and road season.

Medals for England at U18 mountain running World Youth Cup

The level of competition at this year’s U18 WMRA World Youth Cup in Gagliano del Capo, Italy was incredibly high. The atmosphere created by the local organising committee and the people of Gagliano del Capo was outstanding, a certainly contributed to the fantastic results for the team. Clara McKee (Calder Valley Fell Runners, self-coached) claimed the individual title at the 19th running of the event with the England Athletics women's team taking a well-earned bronze.

Strong team selected for International U18 Mountain Running Cup in Italy

The 2026 World Mountain Running Association International U18 Mountain Running Cup will take place on 21 June in Gagliano del Capo. Trial races were held in Sedbergh, Cumbria at the Fell Runners' Association Junior Championships to select a strong England team. Over the years, numerous athletes who first appeared at the U18 Cup have gone on to become World Cup winners, World Championship medallists and leading figures in mountain and trail running, making the competition a true gateway to the sport’s highest levels.

A win for England at inaugural Home Countries International trail race

Keswick was the perfect location for the inaugural Home Countries International trail race on 11 April, which was also incorporating the UKA European-Off Road Running Championships trail selection race, as well as being the British Middle Distance Trail Championships. The trial and the Home Countries competition brought added excitement and made the RunThrough Lake District Trail Race one of the most competitive trail races held in the UK for some years!
