Team selected for 69th edition of the Trofeo Vanoni Relays

We are delighted to share the team selected to represent England at the 69th edition of the Trofeo Vanoni Relays in Morbegno, Italy (25 October).

Trofeo Vanoni is prestigious mountain race with many other international teams and top clubs from all over Europe competing.  We hope the competition will provide a fantastic opportunity to race an Italian “classic” and savour racing in Italy, providing a development opportunity and invaluable experience for our up-and-coming athletes to compete against top quality senior athletes.

The races consist of a relay format. The men's team will be made up of three people racing over a distance of 7.2km, 435m+. The women's team have two people racing over 5km, 248m. The prestigious nature of the event and iconic status at the end of the season offers an opportunity for high level competition over what is considered a very fast mountain running course.

Women

• Charlotte Rawstron (Skyrac AC, Gordon Agar): Charlotte has run for England and GB before including winning an individual bronze at the U20 uphill only Europeans 2024. This year she has raced UTS 25k in Wales finishing 5th and the VK at Mont Blanc marathon finishing 9th and first U23. She was 1st in the U23 age category at the trial for this race at Alderman’s ascent.
• Amy Whelan (Buxton AC, self-coached): Amy has been competing in the English Fell Running Championships since a junior in 2016. Improving consistently, finishing on the podium the past two years. This is Amy’s first England vest reflecting her progress. 

Men

• Charlie Allmond (Ambleside AC, self-coached): This year Charlie earned his first England U23 vest at the Snowdon Race finishing 12th overall and has been competing in the English Fell Running Championships, achieving two fifth-place finishes. Having previously represented England and Great Britain as a junior, he is looking forward to building on that international experience as he continues his transition into senior competition. 
• Sam Bentham (Ilkley Harriers AC, Doug Stewart): This is Sam’s first U23 vest and 5th England vest overall as well as winning two U20 GB vests. Currently fighting for a top five place in the English Championships with two podiums and one race to go.
• Edward Hobbs (Ilkley Harriers AC, Andi Drake): Ed won the 2024 U20 uphill only trial for the 2024 European Championships, finishing 4th at the U20 European uphill only. This year he competed in the senior uphill only trial finishing 4th. Ed gained selection coming 4th U23 at the Alderman’s Ascent trial race finishing 15th overall.
