England Athletics celebrates National Volunteer Award winners

Saturday evening saw England Athletics celebrate the winners of the 2023 National Volunteer Awards. It has been an important feature of England Athletics activity for over a decade and is the the culmination of our volunteer award programme as we recognise our national winners every 12 months after successes have been celebrated at Regional Award evenings.

Pat was too shy to join an athletics club when she was younger, but was encouraged to do so by her schoolteacher and since then has had a lot of success in the sport. We caught up with her to discuss her journey through the sport, especially as a masters athlete and what coaching means to her.

2023 has been another highly successful year of athletics achievements. We have seen athletes and runners receive awards and be placed in podium positions at international sporting events. We have shared progress against the England Athletics Strategic Plan and once again our Regional Volunteer Awards highlighted the huge contributions volunteer individuals and teams make to the success and enjoyment of our sport.

Over the last month at our Regional Awards we have been celebrating the wonderful volunteers that help make athletics and running so special. One of the awards celebrated was the Inspiring Official award which provided an opportunity to thank the licensed officials who are championing excellence across the regions.  At the Yorkshire and Humberside awards we chatted to Jean Jackson, recipient of the Inspiring Official award, about how she got into officiating and the impact she has had on many officials in the region.

East Region Volunteer Award evening

Volunteers from the East region gathered in Bury St Edmunds for their England Athletics regional Volunteer Awards evening. The Atheneum an impressive Georgian Grade I listed building - was the venue for the final England Athletics Volunteer Awards evening. Shortlisted volunteers and members of England Athletics and Regional Council in the East Region had been invited to celebrate officials, coaches, club volunteers and other stalwartsof the sport.

Volunteers from the East Midlands gathered at the Hilton Gateway Hotel in Nottingham for their England Athletics regional Volunteer Awards evening. Coaches, officials, club leaders, club representatives and other stalwarts of the sport were celebrated throughout the evening.
