Active Bystander training in sport: empowering you to challenge discrimination in sport
This training session aligned with International Stand Up to Bullying Day (28 February) and designed to equip you with the confidence and skills to challenge discrimination when you see it.

What is an Active Bystander?
An Active Bystander is someone who recognizes discrimination, harassment, or microaggressions and takes action to challenge these behaviours. In sport, this means creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and respected.
Why is this important?
Discrimination and exclusion still exist in sport. Being an active bystander helps break the cycle of inaction, ensuring that marginalized groups feel supported.
What will you learn?
This interactive session will explore:
- What does it mean to be an active bystander?
- Examples of exclusion in sport and its impact on individuals.
- Understanding key concepts such as ‘The Bystander Effect.’
- How to become an active bystander and challenge discrimination.
- Techniques to โstep inโ and tackle exclusionary behaviour โ including case studies and real-life practice.
This session will create a safe and supportive space for sharing experiences, discussing challenges, and practicing intervention techniques in real-world situations.

Misogyny and sport: exploring gender bias and how to be an ally to women in athletics
In partnership with Inclusive Employers (Sports Division) to explore the impact of misogyny in sport and how we can all be better allies to women. This session takes place ahead of International Womenโs Day (8 March) and is an opportunity to understand how sexism, bias, and discrimination affect women in athletics โ and what we can do to create a more equitable and supportive environment.

Why this matters
Misogyny and gender bias remain significant barriers for women in sport – from athletes and coaches to officials and administrators. From unequal opportunities to sexist attitudes and harassment, these issues persist at all levels of athletics.
- But change is possible – and it starts with allyship.
An ally is someone who actively supports, amplifies, and advocates for women, helping to create safe, inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive.
