It is a busy time in the sport! We have reports on how the young athletes brought the summer of national track and field championships to a close in great style, and news of international experiences for our athletes. The work and expertise of volunteers is fundamental to our sport, and we have important information of how coaches can access support and development opportunities.
It took year leading marks, two UK records – and in an encouragingly large amount of cases, an all-time top 10 performance – to secure victory in a wide range of events on day two of the England Athletics Under 17 / Under 15 and Disability Age Group Championships, confirming that the current crop of age groupers is one of the best.
The sprinters were on fine form on the first day of the England Athletics U15 / U17 and Age Group Disability Athletics Championships. The age group rankings lists were given revision and across a range of other events there were impressive performances.
Martin Rush, Head of Coaching and Athlete Development at England Athletics, gives an update on our coach development activity as part of our commitment to supporting coaches. Through the autumn and winter of 2017/2018 we will be rolling out a new structure of activities, workshops, resources and connections that aim to build on the work done over the last eight years through the successful National and Local Coach Development Programmes.
The England Athletics Trial Races for the Junior Home International Mountain Running Championships took place in Sedbergh on Sunday 27th August. The England trial races for the Junior Home International mountain race have produced strong teams across both age groups.
The UKA Rules of Competition regarding Composite Teams require that all clubs intending to enter composite teams in league competitions must register their intention by 30th September in the previous year. If you intend to continue your existing arrangement into 2018 you should complete and return the composite club form and contact details.
After two years of groundwork, the Hammer Circle, with funding from England Athletics and donations from members, established a team of junior hammer throwers to experience international competition abroad. The competition; the EAP Leiria International Throwing Meeting in Portugal.
Our consultation events for 2017 are now getting underway. Whatever your role in the sport please come along and tell us your views - would want to hear from people from all sections of the affiliated athletics and running community to attend.
We look forward to seeing a wide range of registered athletes, representatives of member clubs, volunteers and everyone who cares about the future of the sport at our consultation events.
England Athletics’ National Endurance Conference is to be held on the 28th and 29th October with speakers including Malcolm Brown (coach to many international athletes as well as Alistair and Jonny Brownlee), and Barry Fudge (Head of Endurance at British Athletics).
After the Summer of sport with the Worlds, Nationals, University, Age Group and Masters champs all now past, why not kick off your Autumn at our National Endurance Conference? You can be part of the weekend which takes the theme “How to Win - the development of power and speed for endurance” and has a mix of workshop, practical, discussion and networking sessions.
