This week we look back at the successes of our Commonwealth Youth Games team, and forward to this weekend's Senior champs which, as well as national titles, also offer opportunities to gain selection for the Manchester International.  We also have Club Run and Volunteer recruitment information for clubs, notice that our 10,000m entries are open, and a reminder to nominate people for our volunteer awards.

This weekend we see England's senior athletes descend on Bedford for the England Athletics AAA and UK CAU Senior Champs incorporating the England Athletics Senior Disability Athletics Championships.  The competition is also the selection event for the Manchester International on 16 August. Here we preview the action.

Commonwealth Youth Games success for England athletes Commonwealth Youth Games success for England athletes

England athletes representing their country at the Commonwealth Youth Games enjoyed a hugely success championships in the track and field events at Thomas A Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. Overall Team England finished top of the medal table with 51 medals (23 gold), beating the total of 44 won in Samoa two years ago, and 12 more than the Australians who ranked second in the medal table (39 medals, 14 gold).

The England Athletics 10,000m championships are to be contested in the 25-lap races to be held at Stretford on Saturday 19 August as part of the BMC fixture. The 10,000m races will provide opportunities for male and female athletes seeking to improve their times for the distance, as well as seeing the championships medals being decided.

Team Personal Best has seen people throughout the country celebrating the Summer of World Athletics as London hosts the World Para Athletics Championships and IAAF World Championships. We take a look at some of what has happened so far and how you can still get involved.

Reminder - Club Run applications Reminder - Club Run applications

The next round of applications for Club Run is now open. The aim of the Club Run programme is to support road running clubs and their membership in achieving their desired goals. That could be anything from helping runners prepare for a marathon, improve their 10k PBs or age bests or shape a team for a road relay event or team championship competition. Clubs applying to Club Run will be able to decide what their focus is and discuss goals with their designated coach.

Volunteers are brilliant. It’s as simple as that, and we will take as many opportunities as possible to celebrate this. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of annual volunteer awards, our opportunity to celebrate the great things they do. We have passed the halfway stage of the awards nomination period; this year looks set to be bigger and better than ever before!

England Athletics, UKA and the other home country governing bodies are alert to our responsibilities to all participants in athletics in respect of all aspects of health and safety. One particular area that young athletes and their parents must be aware of is the risk of cardiac problems, and conditions that can potentially cause Sudden Cardiac Death.

The UKA Rules of Competition regarding Composite Teams require that all clubs intending to enter composite teams in league competitions must register their intention by 30th September in the previous year. If you intend to continue your existing arrangement into 2018 you should complete and return the composite club form and contact details.

2017 National Endurance Conference: book now!

England Athletics’ National Endurance Conference is to be held on the 28th and 29th October with speakers including Malcolm Brown (coached to many international athletes as well as Alistair and Jonny Brownlee), and Barry Fudge (Head of Endurance at British Athletics).

You can be part of the weekend which takes the theme “How to Win - the development of power and speed for endurance” and has a mix of workshop, practical, discussion and networking sessions.
