Birmingham running clubs collaborating to improve athlete experience

Last year, Chris Hollinshead attended some COBS Tuesday night coaching sessions held at the Aston University campus, which were structured as alternating blocks of speed and hills. As Chris is an England Athletics coach based in the West Midlands and coach of the Aston Gazelles Running Club at the university, these visits were greatly beneficial for COBS.

How England Athletics has helped Skelmersdale Running Club grow

Skelmersdale Running Club formed in Spring 2023, starting out with one small group and one session per week. The number of people attending club nights increased at a much faster rate than the club anticipated.

Gemma Steel: from local leagues to European cross country champion

Gemma is a multiple gold medallist at the European Cross Country Championships but also enjoys road running, especially the Great Run series. She'll tackle anything from 5k to half marathon and has been an active competitive athlete for over 15 years. Gemma was one of the four panellists at the National Running Show Q&A session. Located near Bath, Somer AC has grown substantially since first starting in 1981, now welcoming over 200 members between their junior, youth, and senior sections. From winning South West Club of the Year to being awarded a Club Improvement Fund grant, the club had a stellar 2023 which lots more still to come this year!

New Composite Clubs list published for 2024

A Composite Team is an amalgam of two to five clubs, normally within an overall distance of 50 miles. The 2024 list of Composite Teams according to Rule G2 S4 (4) has now been published.

Athletics and running achievements in 2023

2023 has been another highly successful year of athletics achievements. We have seen athletes and runners receive awards and be placed in podium positions at international sporting events. We have shared progress against the England Athletics Strategic Plan and once again our Regional Volunteer Awards highlighted the huge contributions volunteer individuals and teams make to the success and enjoyment of our sport.
