Bebe Jackson's athletics journey and looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games
T44/F44 para-athlete Bebe Jackson is set to make her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow on 29 July 2026. Ahead of the Games, we caught up with the Woodford Green AC & Essex Ladies athlete to reflect on her journey through the sport, the people and club community who have supported her along the way, and what it means to represent Team England at the Commonwealth Games.
Following a successful Commonwealth Youth Games campaign in 2023, Bebe now finds herself preparing for her biggest stage yet. Watch the interview below:
Before joining Woodford Green AC & Essex Ladies, Bebe's athletics journey began at Harlow AC, where she developed as a young athlete and went on to represent Team England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago. Competing in the F42-44/F61-64 Discus, she produced a personal best throw of 24.24m to secure a silver medal and become the first English female para athlete to win a medal at the Games.
Reflecting on the impact her current club has had on her development, Bebe spoke warmly about the support network that has helped shape her both on and off the track.
"Woodford have been absolutely amazing. They're one of the best clubs in the UK, I would say. The coaches here, the club, the team, the people here have brought me so much joy, so much confidence."
That sense of confidence has been a key part of Bebe's journey. As she looks back on how far she has come, she recognises just how much she has grown, both as an athlete and as a person.
"Bebe now compared to Bebe then has a lot more confidence, isn't shy of her disability. Looking back now, she would be so proud of me."
Having experienced first-hand the positive impact that athletics clubs can have, Bebe is passionate about encouraging young people to give the sport a try.
When asked what advice she would give to anyone thinking about joining their local athletics club, her answer was simple:
"Do it! What's the worst that can happen? Follow your heart. Follow what you want to do."
Now just days away from her Commonwealth Games debut, Jackson is focused on enjoying the experience and making the most of the opportunity to represent Team England in Glasgow.
"My main goals are just to have fun, just throw, and I think maybe a cheeky English record."
