Fun for all the family with funetics at the Vale of York

The primary focus of funetics is engaging children and young people with the athletics fundamental movement skills of running, jumping and throwing all whilst having fun. This is something which the Vale of York Athletic Community in Selby has demonstrated and provided for children and families at their recent Family Fun Day.

Toeing the line with sporting heroes

The Great North Run has been attracting some of the world’s best road runners for years.  It seemed very fitting, therefore, that Sir Mo Farah chose this venue to be his final competitive race.  But as Farah’s running journey came to an end, for others it was just the beginning.  Thomas Gostelow (James Thie, North Somerset AC) also tackled the 13.1 miles and lined up in the elite field for the first time.  We caught up with Thomas to learn more about his story: how he first got involved in the sport, what it was like to compete in the Great North Run and how it felt to line up next to Sir Mo Farah.

A mo-mentous occasion - The 2023 AJ Bell Great North Run

As is often the case, it was Sir Mo Farah who made all the headlines at yesterday’s AJ Bell Great North Run although this time it was for a different reason. After an incredible career, Farah called time on life as a professional athlete, choosing the Great North Run to be his final competitive race.  After the event, we spoke to him to get his thoughts on the last race of his career.

Sunshine and smiles on Super Saturday

The AJ Bell Great North Junior and Mini Run was a celebration of sport in its purest form.  The next generation of athletes took part in either a 4km or a 1.2km run around the quayside of Newcastle, a spectacular backdrop for a brilliant day of action.

Issy Boffey reflects on the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games

Despite this being her first year as a senior athlete, Issy Boffey (Luke Gunn, Enfield & Haringey/Birmingham Uni) already has an impressive list of titles to her name.  Not only did she become British Champion over four laps of the indoor track earlier this year, Issy also has multiple European gold medals to her name from both the U20 and U23 Championships.  She was also part of the winning England Team at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.  Issy placed a fantastic 4th in the final of the 800m.
