Coming up in 2026 

We're looking forward to another exciting year in 2026! We'll have our top athletes competing for England at the Commonwealth Games. Leading up to that - come and watch the indoor champs action in Sheffield and other teams representing on the roads, mountains and cross country. We'll also be at the National Running Show and the Marathon Expo. Later this year we welcome the return of our Hall of Fame and Volunteer Awards.

Intense battles in Italian mountains for England

England Athletics were represented by 10 athletes at one of Italy’s most iconic international mountain relay events.  There were record entries in the northern Italy town of Morbegno for the 42nd running of the Vanoni Women’s Relay and the 68th edition of Trofeo Vanoni.

England impress at the inaugural Masters International Trail race

The annual Forest of Dean Autumn Trail Half Marathon, organised by The Rotary Club of the Royal Forest of Dean, played host to the inaugural Masters International Trail race last weekend. Once again England went head to head with old adversaries Wales over a hilly and challenging 13.1 mile route. The race produced a number of outstanding performances.

Young talent shines at the British and Irish Mountain Running Championships

The small village of Y Fron in North Wales hosted the 29th edition of the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships where 80 young athletes from the 5 home nations came together to showcase their talent.  The courses were fast: the U17s racing over 6.2km with 257m ascent and the U20s over 6.8km with 300m ascent, with the event delivering an unforgettable experience which pushed the athletes to their limits.

Following a successful debut last year, England Athletics are pleased to announce the selection of senior and U23 development teams to compete in Italy this October at the prestigious Trofeo Vanoni relay-format mountain running race.

Masters trail race team v Wales announced

We are pleased to announce the England team for the first Masters representative trail race over the half marathon distance. The competition takes place in the Forest of Dean against Wales on the 28 September. The Rotary Club of the Royal Forest of Dean organise two races at the venue during the year on different courses.  Athletes qualified earlier in the year on the Spring course, and the representative race takes place on the Autumn course.

Home International mountain race bodes well for world championships

This year's Senior Home International took place on 17 August and was incorporated into the British Trial for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships. The race was held at Whinlatter Forest near Keswick. A tough challenge for all - 14km with a total ascent of 750m over a fast two lap course in hot conditions.

Junior team announced for Mountain Running Home International

England Athletics is pleased to announce that four strong junior mountain running teams will compete against the Home Countries at the British and Irish Junior Mountain Championships.  Hosted in turn by each of the participating countries, this year’s event returns to Wales on 13 September. For the U20 athletes, the race is 6.9km with 303m ascent/descent, and the U17 athletes race over 6.4km with 265m ascent/descent.

Silver for men's and women's mountain running teams on Snowdon

This year's Snowdon International Mountain Race took place on 19 July and was held in surprisingly good conditions considering the recent heat wave and the weather warnings being issued. Either way it wouldn’t have stopped over 400 runners setting off from Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon mountain - an ascent of nearly 1000m - on a 16km out and back route.
