The inaugural North and Midlands Winter Long Throws Championships saw PBs, National Standards and a Commonwealth Games qualification mark set Over 90 athletes (including five para-athletes) entered this pilot competition with only six not competing, despite the threat of poor weather. There is clearly an appetite for an event at this level at this time of year.

Abingdon Athletics Club has been thriving for over 40 years. The club now offer a diverse range of athletics events, meeting at Tilsley Park in Abingdon, near Oxford twice a week. The club's growing popularity has led the committee to rethink how all the members can get the most productive use of the facility. The club have implemented many ways of trying to reduce the waiting list of over 170 children using the 36 coaches available to them; Coaching and Group Coordinator Colin Mitchell’s detailed scheduling has ensured the best use of the facility on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Malcolm Rogers: 1944-2026

England Athletics is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend, colleague and top technical official Malcolm Rogers. He will be greatly missed by the sport. Malcolm was one of the best athletics officials in Britain and the world for more than 50 years. Recognised with an MBE in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours, he was central to great athletics events and even recently had been assisting the Birmingham 2026 organising committee plan for this summer’s European Championships.

The club were in shock and uncertain about their future, but after consultation with their members and local stakeholders they developed a petition and lobbied against this decision.
