Ivor Wiggett: 1943-2026

We are sad to report the death of Ivor Wigget on 27 January. Ivor passed away in hospital after a short illness with cancer. He held many roles in the sport, officiating as a highly respected Starter and Starter’s Assistant, and Endurance official. He was also a Road Race Adjudicator and was RunEvents Chair for the London Region. He was involved with runbritain (which later became RunEvents) from its inception. He was also a Life Member of the National Athletics League.

Do you want to be involved in enabling our sport to reach thousands more people? We understand that many of our fans are not able to attend our England Athletics championships as spectators. But we want supporters to be able to watch our events via high quality live streaming and also enable us to provide post event highlights, reels and replays.

Top tips for competition providers to prepare for age group changes

From 1 April 2026, the age groups in which young athletes compete will change from U13, U15, U17 and U20, as is currently the case, to U12, U14, U16, U18 and U20. These changes are grounded in a desire to support athletes with their progression through the sport.

Last week the UK javelin community had the privilege of working with the 2016 Olympic Javelin Champion Thomas Röhler. This was the third time he had visited (the last time was in 2019) and this was by far the most successful masterclass in the last decade - with 114 athletes and 40 coaches over the three days at Loughborough University.

After the successful partnership with Swedish Athletics for this team trip last year, England will be sending a team to compete against the best Swedish combined event athletes at their national championships on the 7 and 8 February. With the England Championships acting as the trial event, the selected team have shown fantastic form finishing in the top positions in their age group. We have a great mix of debut athletes and experienced seniors, all hoping to continue their positive start to the indoor season.
