Day three brought the curtain down on the Championships season for England’s best age-groupers. And it proved to be a fabulous last act in what has been a tremendous summer. Spectators and officials were treated to six championship record-breaking performances and on more than one occasion, flashes of world class brilliance. On this evidence, our clubs, coaches and volunteers are doing a great job in producing new talent and the seniors better look over their shoulders. The next generation is ready and waiting to take over!

With many of the athletes who competed in this meeting last year currently at the European U20 Championships in Finland, there was a definite feel that this is an event all about taking the first step in what will be an exciting journey of discovery. Progression is always name of the game at the Age Groups. An endless list of athletes discovered the form of their lives to win national titles for the first time, while plenty more added another notch to their impressive collection of victories.

Day one of an action-packed championship programme got under way spectacularly with form guides ripped up and titles won by contenders rather than favourites. It made for a fabulous start to the weekend with a Championships record and countless personal bests.

The England Athletics U17, U15 and Junior Para Championships: powered by Citroën will take place at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, from Friday 8 August to Sunday 10 August. After the seniors, under-23s and under-20s impressed in Birmingham two weeks ago, it is now the turn of the country’s top under-17s and under-15s to shine. Titles are also on offer in selected under-20 para events.

July brought a wave of standout performances, with athletes across track and field, road running and mountain running showcasing their talent and determination. We also kickstarted the summer season of England Athletics Championships with the Senior, U20 and Para Championships.

New dates added for age group changes drop-in sessions

Ahead of the age group changes coming into effect next April, England Athletics is hosting a series of online drop-in sessions over the coming months, to allow those within the sport to get any remaining questions answered, or queries clarified. Two new dates for these sessions have been added in for 9 September 2025 and 8 October 2025.

Senior/U20 Championships powered by Citroën: preview

The England Athletics Senior and U20 Championships - powered by Citroën - take place at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham from 25 to 27 August. Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Scott Lincoln and Innes Fitzgerald headline a host of top names due to appear as we return to Birmingham for the first championships of the England Athletics summer series. Many of the senior athletes are honing their preparations for the British Athletics Championships at the same venue a week later. Meanwhile, the top juniors will have an eye on international selection as the event doubles as the trial for the European Athletics U20 Championships in Tampere on 7-10 August. Some of the successful British team from the European Athletics Under 23 Championships last week will be in action.
