International Virtual Youth Development Conference

We’re delighted to be hosting our International Virtual Youth Development Conference on 5 & 6 December 2020! If you’re a coach or leader working with young athletes (U18s), and you want to give them a positive athletics experience and help them maximise their potential, then BOOK NOW as this conference is for you!

Our two-day International Virtual Youth Development Conference will be hosted via Zoom and will feature a fantastic line-up of speakers who will deliver engaging presentations and sessions across the weekend. This event was originally scheduled as the National Youth Development Conference for earlier in 2020 but, due to Covid-19, we have rescheduled and moved this to an online event. Conference Schedule

DAY 1 will focus on the key considerations when developing your athletes physical conditioning, how to help minimising injury and maximising potential. We will also explore how to develop your athletes Speed and Jumping skills and abilities.

  • 10:00 – Injury Prevention Consideration in the Developing Athlete. Presenter: Stuart Butler
  • 11.15 – Physical Preparation Considerations for Young Athletes. Presenter: Darren Ritchie

  • 13.30 – Jumps Development for Young Athletes. Presenter: Darren Ritchie.
  • 15.30 – Speed Development for Young Athletes. Presenter: Shani Palmer (17.30 close)

DAY 2 will focus on how to create an effective learning environment for your athletes, what makes a High Performing Coach and how to develop your athlete’s endurance and throwing skills and abilities.

Presenter Information:

Scott Grace
England Athletics National Technical Lead for Youth Development and author of multiple coaching and teaching resources, including the winner of the 2014 European Athletics Innovation award, the ‘Athletics 365’ programme. Scott is also a regular international Team Coach and Team Leader for England and GB age group teams.

Stuart Butler
Internationally renowned Physiotherapist. Stuart has served on many international competitions over the past 15 years, including acting as the Athletics Medical Lead for the past two Commonwealth Games.

Shani Palmer
England Athletics Event Group Lead for Speed, former Olympic athlete and highly respected presenter on topics including Speed, Power and Coach Development. Shani is a regular international Team Coach for England teams.

Dr Sergio Lara-Bercial
A Reader in Sport Coaching at Leeds Beckett University and one of the founders of the iCoachKids Global Movement. He has published over 50 articles, book chapters and educational resources. Sergio has delivered keynotes, lectures and workshops across five continents and consulted for such organisations as UEFA and NIKE. A former international basketball coach for Great Britain he has coached teams to 17 National Titles in the UK.

Darren Ritchie
England Athletics Event Group Lead for Jumps and Combined Events, highly respected author and presenter on topics including Jumps, Physical Preparation and Coach Development. Darren is a three-time British Long Jump Champion who competed as an athlete at European and Commonwealth level. He is a regular international Team Coach for GB age group teams.

Adam Morris
Creator of the globally renowned Sport Psych and Mental Health web platform ‘Believe Perform’. Adam is a highly respected author and presenter on topics including Mental Health, Sports Psychology and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Nick Ridgeon
England Athletics Event Group Lead for Throws and a well-respected presenter on topics including Talent Development and Strength & Conditioning. He is a regular international Team Coach for GB age group teams.

Matt Long
Matt Long coaches both at Birchfield Harriers and Birmingham University. He has led the National Youth Endurance workshop programme. He has served as an England Athletics coach education tutor for the last decade and in 2013 was awarded the British Milers’ Club Award for outstanding coach education. He has authored around 270 coaching articles and continues to write regularly for magazines like Athletics Weekly, Fast Running and BMC News.
