Coach and Officials' education transfer to England Athletics

From 1 October 2023, each of the Home Country Athletics Federations (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) will assume responsibility for the licensing of all coaches and officials (Level 1-3) in the UK.

England Athletics is proud to launch its ‘officials service achievement recognition scheme’ which celebrates the incredible talent, dedication, and hard work of this amazing volunteer community.

Jared and Vina's Officiating journeys

There are many reasons to get involved with Officiating – being part of a community, learning more about the sport, making new friends, and experiencing something new. We caught up with two of our amazing Officials Jared Flannery and Vina Desai to find out a bit more about their journey in the sport. Jared is a Level 1 Starter, Level 2 Starter’s Assistant and Level 1 Endurance Official and Vina is Level 3 Track Judge and Level 2 Field Judge. Jared and Vina spoke to us about their inspiration to becoming involved in the sport and why they decided to progress along the Officiating pathway.

Grassroots athletics volunteers receive King's Birthday Honours

As well as the England Athletics Chair Gary Shaughnessy receiving a CBE for his charity work, three English athletics volunteers were also honoured. Malcolm Rogers receives a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to the sport spanning more than 50 years. And there's a British Empire Medal (BEM) for two athletics stalwarts - Bryan Smith and Paul Sanderson.

Looking back on National Volunteers Week 2023

This year, National Volunteers Week took place from the 1-7 June. As ever, this national event presented the perfect opportunity to celebrate the hard work, dedication and commitment of volunteers across the country.
