On behalf of everyone at England Athletics I would like to wish all those competing in this summer’s England Athletics outdoor track and field championship programme the very best of success and enjoyment. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our hard-working volunteer Technical Officials and Event Staff, without whom this event programme would not take place and to whom we are deeply grateful for their commitment, focus, and dedication. I would like to also thank our host venues, particularly Birmingham Alexander Stadium but also partners at the Manchester Athletics Arena.

At the beginning of each month, the number of under 11s registered by clubs are monitored by England Athletics, and for every 30 x U11s registered, clubs receive a free place on our Coaching Assistant course. This scheme is in place to offer support and benefits to each club that chooses to register their under 11 athletes as a commitment to supporting clubs in need of more volunteers and coaches. To see the real impact of this initiative, we recently caught up with Ian Jennings, Quad Kids and multi-event coach at Aldershot Farnham & District. We explored how registering their under 11s has led to parents and older athletes stepping up into volunteering and leadership roles within their club.

Paul Moseley has been coaching and volunteering for over 30 years, predominantly specialising in disability and para athletics. This journey has provided him with invaluable experiences. He tells us about his coaching philosophy, techniques and tips.

England Athletics, working with other Home Country Athletics Federations and UK Athletics, has spent the last nine months thoroughly reviewing the coaching pathway and structure across the UK. This comprehensive review, informed by surveys, stakeholder analysis, and literature, marks a significant step forward for athletics coaching.

This week marks not only UK Coaching Week, but also National Volunteers' Week - two causes very close to our heart. Throughout the week, we will be showcasing a number of fantastic volunteers from the England Athletics family, as well as giving you some exclusive discount to kickstart your coaching or officiating journey.

Chris Johnson has had a strong passion for running and athletics since childhood and is an active member of Blaydon Harrier & Athletics Club. His personal background includes middle/long-distance running as well as high jump and hurdles. Recently, he has re-discovered his passion for running, but has also discovered how much he enjoys coaching.

Tom Bosworth, one of the fastest racewalkers in British history has embarked on a new chapter. Following his retirement as a professional athlete in 2022, he now channels his renewed passion for racewalking into nurturing the next generation. We caught up with him to discover more about his transition to coaching and his plans for the next few years.
