British Milers Club race image

British Milers' Club

It promises to be another action packed season for British middle distance racing. The British Milers' Club kick off the season on 10 April at Gillingham. With BMC training days, local events and the Grand Prix series on the horizon, there is plenty to look forward to this season.

ERRA Road Relay image

ERRA Road Relay

The first National Road Running Championship event this year is taking place on Saturday 9 April. The men have a 12-stage relay and the women a 6-stage relay both comprising of long legs, 8.65km, and short legs, 5.08km. There is also a certified 5km course for U15 and U17 athletes. Men need to qualify via area relays whilst women and young athletes can enter online.

Youth Development League (YDL)

The YDL kicks off the 2022 season on 24 April with matches for U17 and U20 athletes across the UK. That is closely followed by matches for U15 and U13 athletes on the 8 May.
Janice Kaufman, YDL vice chair said: "This National Youth Development League provides competition for grassroots athletes from the age of 11 to 19 and enables them to develop their skills in a supported structured competition format."

BWRA National Track Championships

On the 7 and 8 May, The British Wheelchair Racing Association National Track Championships will be taking place at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium. There are plenty of events for both junior and senior athletes.

Looking to set yourself a goal this spring? Why not head down to your local parkrun? Whether you are looking to run your first 5k, enjoy a morning out with family/friends or even try and run a PB, a parkrun is the perfect place to start.

National Athletics League

This year's National Athleics League kicks off on 7 May. There will be 38 clubs competing at four rounds of fixtures, with the Premiership and Championship finals taking place in Bedford on 20 and 21 August respectively.

Upcoming events in the South West

Weston Prom Run - 7 April

Looking for an event for the whole family? With a 1 mile Junior race and a 5 mile Senior race, this event is the perfect fit. This race makes up one in a series of nine for 2021/22.  The senior course covers two laps of the famous Weston-super-Mare promenade. Entries close the Tuesday before each race.

Yate AC Open Meetings - 2 and 3 April

Looking to officially get your 2022 outdoor track and field season underway? Yate AC will be hosting a Throws and Jumps open on 2 April and a Sprints and Hurdles open on 3 April. Entries will close a week in advance.

Bill Whistlecroft Spring Open - 16 and 18 April

Over the Easter weekend, Yeovil AC will be hosting an open meet. 16 April:
Track: all hurdles, steeplechase and  800m and 100m
Field: discus, shot put, hammer, high jump, long jump and seated throws
18 April:
Track: 100m to 3000m and Quad Kids
Field: long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole vault, javelin and Quad Kids

Upcoming events in the North West

Three Bridges 10k Road Race - 10 April

The popular three bridges race is back once more.  With runners from across the North West taking part, this event provides the perfect opportunity for spring 10k, half marathon or marathon prep. The event is also great for those looking to try something a little longer than their weekly parkrun.

Wavertree Open Meetings- 3 and 9 April

Looking to get your outdoor track and field season underway? Liverpool Harriers and A.C. will be hosting two open meetings.  On 3 April, a junior event will take place in the morning and a senior event in the afternoon.  The 9 April will be a throws and jumps open meeting.

Mow Cop Killer Mile - 12 May

Fancy a different kind of challenge? The Mow Cop Killer Mile is back once again. With 550 feet of climbing at a 25% gradient in places, this event is sure to get your legs and your lungs burning. With several races for various age groups, this event is one for the whole family to enjoy.

Upcoming events in the North East

Locke Park Pies & Peas 5 Mile race - 11 May

Looking for a 5 mile race to prep for a 10k or half marathon? This could be the event for you. The race will be run around an accurately measured mile loop. Prizes will be available for the first male and female. Age group prizes will also be available.

The Northern League - 30 April

Keen to compete for your club this summer? The Northern Track and Field League will be kicking off on 30 April 2022. This year, six East divisions and five West divisions will be battling it out to see who emerges victorious. The Grand Regional Final will take place on 27 August.

Sunderland City runs - 7 and 8 May

In May, Sunderland will be welcoming 5,000 participants to the city streets in celebration of running across a range of distances.  Whether you are looking for a flat 10k course, a half-marathon event or a short 3k run, there's something for everyone. Looking to race a 5k, 10k, half marathon or even marathon? The Bungay Festival of running has it all, including an 800m fun run. The 5k is a measured road race whilst the other events are multi-terrain courses.

The Ipswich 5k Summer Series will be returning once more. Running each month from May to August, the course consists of two laps. Whether you are looking for a midweek run or to complete your first 5k, this is a great event to be involved in. There is also a 2.5k fun run event for children.

Upcoming events in the South East

Southern Athletics League - 22 May

Keen to compete for your club this summer? The Southern Athletics League will be kicking off on 22 May 2022. Divisions 1 and 2 will have five matches whilst Division 3 will have four matches. This is a great opportunity for all athletes and runners to get stuck in with both track and field events.

Maidenhead Easter 10 - 15 April

The Maidenhead Easter 10 is back once more. Starting at 9:30 on Good Friday, this flat and fast course has definitely got PB potential (total ascent 70m). The event is open to anyone aged 17 or over on the day. Medals will be awarded to all race finishers.

Milton Keynes PB Classic - 4 June

Are you an U20 looking for a fast middle-distance event? The Milton Keynes PB Classic could be perfect. With seeded races for 800m, 1500m, 3000m and steeplechase, there's plenty to get involved with. Pacemakers will be at the event to help as many athletes to a PB as possible.

British Masters Open Road Relay Championships - 23 April

Taking place in Sutton Park, the British Masters Open Relays are open to anoyone over the age of 35. Depending on the age category, you will compete in a 6-stage, 4-stage or 3-stage relay with others from your club. Entires close 17 April.

Looking to start your track and field season with a bang? The Charnwood AC Open meetings kick off on the 6 April. Whether you are looking to compete on the track or the field, these open meets have a range of events for you to get involved.

Leicester's Big 10 - 24 April

Taking place in Abbey Park, Leicester, this flat and fast 10k course is perfect for those trying to beat their PB. The race will take part in 2 waves: those expected to complete the course in less than 45 minutes and all other runners. In 2019, the event had over 1200 entrants! Runners must be 15 or older to enter this event.

Chase the Sun QE Olympic Park - 13 April

Antrim Coast Half Marathon

We are delighted to be taking a team of up to four men and four women to the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in August. The team will be selected week beginning 6 June 2022. The first female and first male English athlete at the 2022 England Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Gatwick on 8 May will be offered automatic selection provided they have met one of the selection standards.

Cardiff 5k - U20s

England Athletics will be sending a team of up to a four U20 men and four U20 women to the Cardiff 5km. The England Team will be selected based on performances achieved between 1 January 2021 and midnight 10 April 2022. The fastest English U20 male and female at The National 6 & 12-Stage Relay on 9 April in both the short and long legs will be offered automatic selection provided they have also met the required qualification standards.

British indoor Championships

With places for the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade on offer, competition at this year’s UK Athletics Indoor Championships was understandably intense. So it was great to see England’s athletes emerge amongst the gold medallists in Birmingham with encouraging regularity, not to mention the string of championships bests along the way.

English National Cross Country Championships

More than 6,000 ran at the National Cross Country Championships and thousands more were just there to watch, work or volunteer. Whether Olympians, backmarkers, parents, coaches, officials or photographers – for this diverse group, Parliament Hill in London was briefly the centre of the running world.

BUCS Championships

It has been a busy few months for BUCS with both the indoor and cross country championships taking place. We have seen some outstanding performances by our university students with several PB performances put down. Congratulations to all those involved in both events.

English Schools' Cross Country

Last weekend saw thousands of young athletes head to Kent for the English Schools' Cross Country Championships. Having been cancelled last year due to Covid-19, runners were out in force. In the Senior races Louis Small and Louise Hackett emerged victorious. Well done to all those who took part.
