Guide to athletics opportunities
England Athletics Youth Panel guide to athletics opportunities
There are many opportunities for young people to get involved in within athletics, these include but are not limited to:
o Team management
o Administrative roles
o Event volunteering
Where is my local club?
To find a club to get involved, England Athletics have a ‘find a club section’ of the website at www.englandathletics.org/clubfinder. Simply enter your area and it will identify all of the local athletics and running clubs in that area. This will then show the location, club contact and club website. From there you will be able to find more information on the chosen club.
Coaching, officiating and club admin
These are all great ways to begin volunteering in athletics. Completing courses and using the experience gained is a great CV booster and helps develop many key skills. For more information check the volunteering section of the England Athletics website, the England Athletics volunteer guide and the courses booking page to apply for and complete coaching and officiating qualifications.
Athletics 365 is a coaching resource and programme designed to develop fundamental skills and technical competency across all events for athletes aged 8-15 years old. It also allows a coach to develop an athlete’s physical, mental and emotional development. Each athlete is provided with a record of achievement so that they can record how they do in each event and are also set challenges to meet for each event. This programme also helps improve an athlete’s conditioning. For more information go to www.englandathletics.org/365
British Athletics – summer series
Are you interested in volunteering at a national athletics event? Each year British Athletics open applications to volunteer at some of the largest athletics events within the UK. This includes the: Diamond League, Birmingham Grand Prix, Anniversary Games and more. Don’t delay though, as there is limited availability.
