Terrific Thursday for Team England at the Commonwealth Youth Games

As the curtain falls on the first ever Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in the Caribbean, Team England’s athletes can look back on the week with pride. There were PBs, Championship records and medals a plenty, and the final day of the track and field competition was no exception.

Middle distance magic and 400m medals for England on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Youth Games

Day 2 saw English interest in the 1500m finals, men's 400m Hurdles semis, both one lap flat finals and the men's long jump final. And Day 2's session of action resulted in a 1500m bronze for Lyla Belshaw.

Issy Boffey reflects on the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games

Despite this being her first year as a senior athlete, Issy Boffey (Luke Gunn, Enfield & Haringey/Birmingham Uni) already has an impressive list of titles to her name.  Not only did she become British Champion over four laps of the indoor track earlier this year, Issy also has multiple European gold medals to her name from both the U20 and U23 Championships.  She was also part of the winning England Team at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.  Issy placed a fantastic 4th in the final of the 800m.

Sprinters impress on Day 1 of the Trinbago Commonwealth Youth Games

Day 1 of the highly anticipated athletics and para-athletics action at the Commonwealth Youth Games saw 13 of the 31 Team England athletes kick-start their campaigns and they did so in style. Team England secured a superb four medals, two gold and two silver.

Only the brave will predict the destination of the four gold medals and national titles on offer in Manchester, but there were more than enough amazing performances to suggest it will take something very special indeed to secure that top slot. Day one is about laying down the foundations in a Combined Events Championships and there were some pretty solid bases constructed. Day two will definitely be something to savour.
