Meet Tom Woolley: from walking 100 metres in pain - to running again

For many runners, the biggest fear isn’t missing a race - it’s losing the ability to run altogether. For Tom Woolley, a member of Tonbridge AC, that fear became very real following the Manchester Marathon 2024, when persistent knee pain suddenly changed his relationship with running.

England Masters ready to take on Wales and Northern Ireland

The Masters marathon has moved from its traditional Autumn slot to Spring. This year England Athletics is excited to announce that the representative race is being held as part of Manchester Marathon on 19 April. A sea of red, white, and green vests amongst 40,000 runners at the start of the race represent teams from England, Wales, and Northern Ireland who will battle it out over the 26 miles. We are pleased to announce the masters athletes who have qualified to compete and earn themselves an England Age Group Masters vest for this race.

A Super Sunday for our Masters athletes

England Athletics Masters had their own version of Super Sunday at the weekend, with the opportunity of an England vest up for grabs. Over 500 runners took to the roads of Wilmslow and Thorney and the trails at the Forest of Dean with the aim of gaining selection for the international representative races later in the year.

Excellent top tips at Masters winter training day

The latest Masters workshop in St Ives (Cambs) attracted athletes from far and wide, including Folkestone, Weston-super-Mare, Stockport and Southport. The day started with an outline of the Masters programme and 2026 qualification opportunities for England athletes. Jana Wilkins delivered a session on 'nutrition for masters athletes' and rogramme co-ordinator Chris Hollinshead delivered a group training session on the track.

Joe Appiah – more than an MBE

Joe Appiah was recently recognised in the New Year Honours with an MBE for services to Sport, to Public Health and Public Service. But, as with many of our volunteers, there’s more to the man than an MBE. England Athletics is proud to announce an Open indoor 400m masters event, taking place on Sunday 8 March, incorporated into the England Athletics indoor Age Group Combined Events and Junior Para Championships weekend at the EIS in Sheffield. Coming up in 2026 

We're looking forward to another exciting year in 2026! We'll have our top athletes competing for England at the Commonwealth Games. Leading up to that - come and watch the indoor champs action in Sheffield and other teams representing on the roads, mountains and cross country. We'll also be at the National Running Show and the Marathon Expo. Later this year we welcome the return of our Hall of Fame and Volunteer Awards.

Taking home a grand total of 132 gold medals, 102 silver medals and 77 bronze medals, the European Masters Athletics Championships in Madeira was definitely one to remember for Great Britain!
