Celebrating the greats of our sport at our 2024 Hall of Fame

After a break for 2023, the England Athletics Hall of Fame returned in November 2024. The evening at the Athena Events Venue in Leicester was a celebration of our sport with new inductees to the Hall of Fame and recognition of the National Volunteer Award winners for 2024.

National Volunteer Award winners recognised

This year's England Athletics Hall of Fame also recognised the contributions of the volunteers who make the sport happen. Our National Volunteer Award winners were shortlisted from the nine Regional Award winners in 2024. The awards were presented to our National Volunteer Award winners at the impressive Athena building in Leicester as part of the 2024 England Athletics Hall of Fame event.

An England Team competed at the prestigious Trofeo Vanoni Italian Mountain Race race. A high level of competition is always expected and this year was no different with teams from; Scotland, Wales, France, Ireland, Poland, San Marino, Slovenia and Mexico all in attendance, as well as the best Italian runners.

Results of the England Athletics 2024 Annual General Meeting

The England Athletics Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in Birmingham today. We are grateful to all the clubs and member bodies who took part and continued to strengthen the sport.  Following a member vote, England Athletics has confirmed three appointments to the Board, including one new appointment, one re-election and one re-appointment.

John Bailey: 1929-2024

England Athletics is sorry to hear of the passing of John Bailey who coached athletics for 60 years and was a renowned England and Great Britain sprints coach, with a particular involvement with British Blind Sport and Metro Blind Sport (alongside John Anderson, Brian Scobie and Sheila Carey), and the Leicester Disability Athletics Group.

All at England Athletics are saddened to hear of the passing of renowned and well-loved coach, John Anderson. These included world 5000m record-breaker Dave Moorcroft who he coached from the age of 16 and throughout a career. It also includes Sheila Carey, Liz McColgan, John Graham, Judy Simpson and many more during a stellar career.
