Safeguarding Adults Week

This week (18-22 November) marks the Ann Craft Trust’s Safeguarding Adults Week, which aims to raise awareness of important, but often sidelined, safeguarding issues. Safeguarding - protecting the welfare of those who take part in our sport - is of primary importance to England Athletics, with numerous measures in place to ensure that children and adults within our sport are provided with a genuinely safe and welcoming environment in which to flourish.

Licensing for coaches and officials: one year on

October signified one year since the Home Country Athletics Federations (HCAFs) assumed responsibility for coach and officials licensing, and England Athletics has marked the anniversary by issuing progress reports and future plans for both areas of work. Over the past 12 months, England Athletics has worked collaboratively with the other HCAFs to ensure co-ordinated, aligned progress and a positive experience for coaches and officials.

The Amateur Athletic Association is sorry to hear of the death of AAA Life Vice President Richard Float who passed away on 7 October aged 91.

Watch your race numbers!

With the rise in popularity of road running we are seeing more sold-out races. Unfortunately, scammers are unfortunately ready to take advantage and are finding new ways to target runners eager for entry. One common scam involves fake listings for race entries on social media, where individuals claim they’ll transfer their race number for a fee. After receiving payment, they delete their profile, leaving the buyer without a race entry or a way to get their money back.

England Athletics’ nine Regional Councils are inviting applications for a total of 38 roles at next year’s Regional Council elections. The nomination process opens on 23 January, with applicants having the chance to help shape the sport for benefit of their clubs and members, both now and in the future.

The Club Leadership Programme is open to all England Athletics affiliated clubs with two free places on the programme on an application basis. Following on from the success of the Club Leadership programme in previous years, this innovative and interactive online personal development initiative for club leadership is back for 2024.

Celebrating the greats of our sport at our 2024 Hall of Fame

After a break for 2023, the England Athletics Hall of Fame returned in November 2024. The evening at the Athena Events Venue in Leicester was a celebration of our sport with new inductees to the Hall of Fame and recognition of the National Volunteer Award winners for 2024.

National Volunteer Award winners recognised

This year's England Athletics Hall of Fame also recognised the contributions of the volunteers who make the sport happen. Our National Volunteer Award winners were shortlisted from the nine Regional Award winners in 2024. The awards were presented to our National Volunteer Award winners at the impressive Athena building in Leicester as part of the 2024 England Athletics Hall of Fame event.

Podium places for mountain running England Team in Italy

An England Team competed at the prestigious Trofeo Vanoni Italian Mountain Race race. A high level of competition is always expected and this year was no different with teams from; Scotland, Wales, France, Ireland, Poland, San Marino, Slovenia and Mexico all in attendance, as well as the best Italian runners.
