Two inspiring presentations for Run Leaders and Coaches to take place in Portsmouth

Run Leader workshop with sessions on Endurance training, avoiding injury, and mindfulness for runners

Run Leaders, Running Coaches, Athletics Coaches and Assistant Coaches are invited to join Jo Meek and Tina Chantrey for two inspiring presentations about their experiences in their roles as a Physiotherapist and GB Mountain trail athlete, Women's Running writer and Athletics Coach.  The workshop will be taking place in Portsmouth on the 10th March from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

Jo Meek is a sports and musculoskeletal physiotherapist. Working for both the MOD and for the English Institute of Sport working with funded professional athletes.  Jo has been a runner for 20+ years, starting as a recreational local club runner.  Results have included a second at Marathon des Sables, 4th at a 100km World Championships and 2nd at a 101km CCC UltraTrail Mont Blanc race.

Jo' s presentation 'Endurance training and avoiding injury 'will touch on her endurance achievements and journey and she'll share information on training tips. Her insight as a physiotherapist that runs will include advice on signs and symptoms of injuries and how to manage injuries and rehabilitation.

Tina Chantrey is a running coach, a contributing editor of Women’s Running magazine and the award-winning blogger shewhodaresruns and an author. She is also an England Athletics Mental Health Ambassador and mum.

Her presentation 'Mindful running' will look at the mental health benefits of running, and at the science behind those feel-good feelings.  She’ll use some group work to practise some mindful techniques and show that everyone can achieve this, as well as encourage others to try.

England Athletics local Club Support Manager Sarah Gardiner has planned this workshop, "Having visited many clubs over the last year, there appears to be a demand for local ‘soft skills’ workshops for Coaches and Run Leaders, it has been put together with a conference approach with a nice lunch, refreshments and time to network.  If this workshop is successful, I will be hoping to schedule in similar days across the South East region, England Athletics workshops are reliant on people attending and giving CSM’s feedback as to needs in local areas."

The workshop costs £20 with refreshments and lunch provided, as well as post workshop use of the leisure facilities if delegates wish to have a workout or a swim. Go to our Event section to find out more and book online.
