Great Club Challenge update

Great Club Challenge update

The battle to be crowned Great Run’s fastest running club has intensified, with three more clubs taking team honours in races across the country. And there are more opportunities for clubs to get amongst the prizes on the way.

The Great Club Challenge is now in its fifth year, in partnership with England Athletics, and provides even more opportunities for clubs nationwide to win exciting prizes at Great Run events over the year.

The Great Club Challenge takes place over 11 events and started with the Great Bristol Half Marathon (25th Sept), Great Scottish Run (2nd Oct), Great Birmingham Run (16th Oct), and the Great South Run (23rd Oct) last year.

In April’s Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k, Bourneville Harriers were the fastest club, with Birmingham Running, Athletic and Triathlon Club (BRAT) second and City of Birmingham Striders in third.
May saw the Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k, where Bristol and West AC took the honours followed by Westbury Harriers and Team Bath AC in second and third respectively.

Salford Harriers took top spot in May’s Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run, with Stockport Harriers second and Sale Harriers third.

Any club affiliated to England Athletics or Scottish Athletics can enter.  Clubs must field a minimum of four men and four women who are registered athletes, and the winning club is the one with the lowest average finishing time.

Prizes are available for top three clubs, plus spot prizes from Great Run’s event partners.

In each event, first prize will win 15 entries for the equivalent 2017-8 event and £500 towards club development. The second placed club will win ten entries for the equivalent 2017-8 event, with the third placed club scooping five places.

The winning club in the Great North 10k Club Challenge will also receive guaranteed entry into the Simplyhealth Great North Run 2017 for their club.

Recently held in the series will be the Simplyhealth Great Newham London Run (2nd July) and the Simplyhealth Great North 10k (9th July) with the challenge culminating in the Simplyhealth Great North Run on Sunday, 10 September.

The Great Club Challenge last year saw 5344 runners take part from 146 clubs. Previous winners are Birmingham Running, Athletics & Triathlon (BRAT), Stockport Harriers, Tyne Bridge Harriers and last year’s winner Ripley Running Club.
