Did YOU Run and Talk?

Did YOU Run and Talk?

Did YOU #runandtalk  between Saturday 27th January and Friday 2nd February to improve mental wellbeing through running, share mental health experiences and removing stigma?

Jenny Meadows and Mara Yamauchi did, as guests of Chorlton Runners and Ealing Eagles respectively.  If you were one of those who took part in over 140 organised runs, why not let us know how it went?  Click here to complete a short survey to help us ready for next time! (closing date is Monday 19th February)

2018 runandtalk Chorlton Runners

Daniel VandenBurg invited Mara Yamauchi to a run with Ealing Eagles (London) and afterwards they gave some talks in a local pub. Daniel talked about 10 benefits of running on mental health, and his  experiences of living with a chronic diagnosis. Mara talked about mental health and elite runners and her findings from being an athlete and long-time coach.

At the other end of the country, Chorlton Runners (Manchester) were joined by Jenny Meadows. Jenny led the warm up and said a few words. The session catered for all paces with a 1 mile run/walk, 2 mile and 3 mile group - and had a back marker so nobody was left behind. After a lovely run round Chorlton water park which is a really nice place to run, everyone returned to the gazebo for cake and coffee and continued to chat.

Organiser Leona Beaumont told us, "It was brilliant having Jenny along today. She was so lovely and friendly, it really made the event having her along.  We had really good feedback after the event with a few people intending to join the club."

#runandtalk is an England Athletics campaign supported by Mind, the Mental Health charity, to improve mental wellbeing through running.  Twice a year we ask people to get out for a jog or run with friends, family or colleagues and have a chat to support Time to Talk Day and World Mental Health Day.  Our RunTogether groups organise and publicise special #runandtalk sessions to help:

  • get people talking about mental health, sharing their experiences and removing stigma
  • raise awareness of mental health problems
  • support people experiencing mental health problems to start, return to and continue running
