An introduction to new new Manchester McCain Athletics Network Coordinator

An introduction to new new Manchester McCain Athletics Network Coordinator

The Manchester McCain Athletics Network are pleased to announce that they have employed a new Coordinator, Ceri Richardson.  Ceri told us a little about her background prior to joining the team:

"I have been involved in athletics since I was 13, when forced to throw a big stick at the school town sports.  Previous to this I had been involved in a lot of team sports / activities and none really ‘fit’.  I went down to my local athletics club and found I enjoyed the variety athletics had to offer.  I rarely strayed from the Javelin, but with the training incorporating sprints, fitness circuits, plyometrics and even some middle distance I was always engaged; a year on, I was hooked!

"I obtained my UKA Level 1 when I was 16, assisting my club where possible. Two years later, injured, but still in love with the sport I achieved my Level 2 and went to University in 2003.  My University had no athletics team, but not to be defeated, I found a fellow athlete, with the same hopes and ambition to build a team.  Six months on, 26 members later we took a team to Sheffield to compete and return with Edge Hill’s first athletics medal (a silver!).

"My professional life started in School Sport Partnerships where I have been for nearly 5 years, in various roles from Athletics, Multi-Skills, Senior Development Coach, School Sport Coordinator to my latest role of Partnership Development Officer, where I took the lead on Gifted and Talented, School Sport Coaching and Leadership and Volunteer programmes across 80 Cheshire Schools.  I continue to volunteer at my local athletics club, specialising more in Children’s Coaching and am co-tutoring the new UKA and England Athletics Coach Education Courses for UKA following tutor training in November 2010.

"I hope my passion for athletics and previous experience working in SSPs drives the Manchester Athletics Network forward.  Manchester is an exciting place to start my professional career in athletics and I am keen to engage more people from the Manchester Community into the strong Manchester Athletics Clubs in the Network."
