Youth Development - how to make the most of Athletics 365 (Wavertree)

Description: Athletics 365 is a multi-event, young people development programme, which introduces athletes to the fundamental skills of athletics. This workshop helps you learn how to make effective use of the award-winning Athletics 365 resources with your athletes. The workshop is ideal for Coaching Assistants, Athletics Coaches, those new to Athletics 365 and/or youth development, established coaches wishing to develop confidence and competence in this area and experienced practitioners wishing to refresh and consolidate their knowledge.
Athletics 365 was launched in 2010 and has now been widely adopted within the UK and is gaining recognition across the world, particularly since winning the European Athletics’ Innovation Overall Prize in 2014.
This practical workshop will cover:
- How to use the Athletics 365 resource;
- Practical examples of Athletics 365 in action;
- How and when to use games or drills to develop skills;
- Assessing an athletes’ skill stages;
- How to design inclusive coaching sessions;
- Planning youth development coaching programmes;
The workshop will be tailored on the day to address the prime needs the audience bring with them on this topic.
Deliverer: Colin Allen.
Colin is a senior tutor and member of the National Coach Development Programme for Youth Development. Colin has worked in the sports development industry for many years and has extensive knowledge in the areas of coaching and youth development. Colin earlier this year Colin delivered a series of Athletics 365 sessions abroad. In the past Colin has written various training resource and programmes including sports coach UK workshops. In recent years Colin has delivered throughout the UK on topics such as youth development, movement skills and throwing events. Colin has been a key member of the Great Manchester Network and has worked with local clubs and around the great Manchester area to support young athlete development.
Time: 6.30pm - 9.30pm This workshop is approximately 3 hours in length and largely practical in nature.
Cost: £20 for UKA licensed Coaches or Leaders, or affiliated Clubs. £40 for not UKA licensed Coaches, or non-affiliated Clubs.

Coaches to bring any food or drink they require for during the workshop. Some facilities may have a canteen or cafe area, but some will have no areas available to buy refreshments.
The workshop will include practical sessions so please bring suitable clothing i.e. trainers, shorts / tracksuit bottoms.
England Athletics welcome you bringing a video camera/ tablet device to this workshop should you want to film some of the exercises for personal use*. However, some restrictions, or requirements to ‘sign in’ equipment may be in place at some facilities and we ask that you respect the rules concerning recordings in place at venues we use.
*Use of footage is for personal use/ use by your affiliated club only; commercial use or publishing of recordings is not permitted.
Please note though that videos supporting Athletics 365 are available via the Athletics 365 Apps (which are made available to people taking the Coaching Assistant and Athletics Coach qualifications).
