Years in athletics: 10
Occupation: Student - Sixth Form
Athletics involvement: Athlete, Coach
Hi I’m Tom from Oxfordshire and I have been part of my club Bicester AC since I was seven. I have competed through the years in different events and competitions, and created a big interest and love for all of athletics, but especially endurance running where I have raced at the cross country inter-counties for a few years.
For the last five years I have become involved in leadership at school and my club, and have progressed to now where I have received my coaching assistant qualification. I really enjoy coaching and being able to use my knowledge and experience to teach younger athletes and see them have fun and develop through the sport. I’m also running a support programme for young leaders at my club, so I can pass on my experience and enthusiasm and help achieve retaining young people in our sport.
In 2014 I went on the National Talent Camp as a coach as part of England Athletics. It was here I was introduced to the Youth Advisory Group, and when I began being interested in being further involved in the sport I love. I joined because of this and the opportunity to use my experience to make a difference and make athletics as good as it can be for all those who share my passion for the sport. I am excited to meet new people with similar interests and gain further experience from other people.
