England Athletics is responsible for the administration and delivery of Teacher Education courses across England.

The following courses are aimed at qualified and trainee teachers and those supporting the management and delivery of high quality sport and physical education in Primary and Secondary schools.  These courses aim to give teachers and others working in schools the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to deliver enjoyable and engaging lessons that focus on encouraging maximum participation and increasing understanding, skill acquisition, fitness and enjoyment of children.

Teaching Primary Schools Athletics – Teachers Workshop

The workshop is aimed at qualified and trainee teachers and those supporting the management and delivery of high quality sport and physical education in primary schools. This workshop aims to give teachers and others working in schools the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to deliver enjoyable and engaging lessons that focus on encouraging maximum participation and increasing understanding, skill acquisition, fitness and enjoyment of children.

The Primary workshop is based on the NEW Teaching Primary Schools Athletics resource (which every candidate will receive free as part of the workshop) and demonstrates teaching progression across Primary School age groups in both generic and athletics specific running, jumping and throwing activities.

The workshop is mainly practical in nature and can be delivered over either 4 or 6 hours, to a maximum of 24 participants. The workshop can also be delivered in whole, over one day or over two twilight sessions.


Workshop Cost: £650 for 4 hour workshop or £750 for 6 hour workshop (up to a maximum 24 candidates).  Cost covers support resources, tutor fees and administration fees.  Each candidate will receive: a certificate of attendance for the Teaching Primary Schools Athletics Workshop.

Teaching Secondary Schools Athletics – Teachers Workshop

An exciting NEW workshop for Secondary School Teachers and those wishing to deliver athletics in curricular and extra-curricular time is now available.

The Workshop is aimed at qualified and trainee teachers, as well as those supporting the management and delivery of high quality sport and physical education in secondary schools, and is packed full of useful teaching tips and ideas. The workshop includes:

  • Interactive and practical content
  • Available in 3.5 and 6 hour formats
  • Places for up to 24 candidates per workshop

Each candidate will receive access to extensive Secondary Teaching Resources within the Schools Athletics App including:

  • Examples of Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans
  • Technical Tips on how to Teach Sprints, Endurance, Jumps and Throws events
  • Activity cards covering a full range of athletics events for students aged 11+

The resources associated with this workshop are provided via the brand new Schools Athletics App, which has been designed to place running, jumping and throwing at the heart of school physical education, whilst supporting teachers in delivering athletics activities in an inclusive, exciting and engaging manner.

Workshops for Pupils - Ages 14 Years+

Leading Athletics Workshop

This workshop will teach Leaders to set up and monitor a group of standard sessions covering a range Athletics events. Leaders will be able to lead sessions under direct supervision of a qualified Athletics Coach or in schools under school insurance and supervision, as long as they stick within the remit of the published, standard sessions and task cards. We will make as many of these sessions available as we can to cover each of the relevant events. This Workshop is s upported by an App based resource. The App isboth Apple and Android compatible and can be used on iPad / iPhone or android smartphones”

Minimum Attendees Age: 14yrs plus

Equipment required: Classroom area suitable for up to 24 seated with Projector, Screen, flipchart stand and paper, plus a practical areas such as a sportshall.

Certificate of attendance given on the day.

Once they reach 16 years they can attend the Coaching Assistant as the next step.
