England Masters 10k representative opportunities 2018/2019

Following the success of the England Masters versus Celtic Masters representative competition over the 10k distance earlier this year, England Athletics are delighted to announce that we will be repeating this opportunity in 2019.  Working in partnership with providers of some of the best 10k events in the country, alongside the British Masters Athletics Federation these representative events aim to reward and recognise the achievements of age group club runners.

The representative opportunity will once again be incorporated within the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham 10k for Sunday 12th May 2019. Those runners who achieve selection will get to don a specially designed England Masters vest and will be allocated a front of race starting pen just behind the elite starters.

There will be three qualifying opportunities over this coming autumn and in the new year, one in the North, Midlands and South of England. Interested runners are urged to get their entries in quickly as all three of our host partner qualifying events are very popular with entries often closing early and at capacity.

Due to the unusual circumstances last winter which saw two of the qualifying races postponed until later in the year we will also be offering places to runners who qualified through the rescheduled events. Please note that to qualify through Lincoln 2018 or Trafford 2018 you will have had to have pre-registered your interest to compete prior to the original race deadlines and will need to meet the original requirements of a top three finishing position amongst the registered runners in your age band and have achieved a minimum standard. This offer does not apply to those runners who were selected anyway based on the ranking system we brought in due to the race cancellations. Therefore, if you are looking to earn a second representative vest you will need to re-register and re-qualify.

In addition to ensuring you have entered the qualifying races through the respective race entry systems, all athletes interested in consideration for selection should register their interest with England Athletics prior to racing in the qualifiers.  Click here to register online.

How do I qualify?

The top three eligible men and top three eligible women in each age category from V35, V40, V45 upwards will be selected from each of the three qualifying races. To be eligible for selection runners should ensure the following:

  • Registered competitive member of an affiliated England Athletics club
  • Have pre-registered interest online with England Athletics prior to the qualifying race (athletes who have not pre-registered interest, but finish in the top three in the qualifying race will not be eligible for selection)
  • Have achieved a minimum qualifying standard either in the qualifying race or within the previous 12 months prior to the qualifying race. This must have been done in a UKA licensed event as listed on the www.runbritain.com site
  • Be available and fit to compete in the representative race.

N.B. There are no reserve or substitute selections and the size of the team will be determined by entries at the qualifying events and availability for the representative race in May 2019. Athletes who are unable to compete in the representative race will not be able to defer to another team opportunity.

Athletes should register their interest under the age group at which they will contest the qualifying race. If there is a change of age group between qualifier and representative race then they will move up an age group and compete in their correct age group on the day of competition.

Please note the selected athletes are required to cover their own costs of entry, travel, accommodation where necessary. England kit will be available to purchase.

Qualifying standards have been determined by a combination of runbritain rankings and the WAVA age graded regional to national percentages.
