Coaching Qualifications
Whether you are new to coaching or leading, want to start coaching your own group or want to try a new discipline, we have courses available to meet your needs. Our course programme offers a mixture of online, face to face and blended learning to help you fit in the training at a time and pace to suit you.
New to coaching or leading?
Leadership in Running Fitness
Achieve a recognised Leadership in Running Fitness qualification and learn how to safely lead warm-ups, cool-downs, and running sessions for mixed-ability groups aged 12+.
Coaching Assistant and Athletics Coach
A combined course for those who wish to move directly through to Athletics Coach level. In-person days, a series of online, self-guided learning modules, and finally an in-person practical assessment.
Athlete to coach
A tailored and intensive training programme that allows senior athletes – who have represented GB&NI or a Home Nation – to gain Athletics Coach and build on knowledge developed through an athletics career.
Coaching support for teachers
The England Athletics schools offer provides a wide range of resources and programmes, including online training modules and in-person workshops for teachers at both primary and secondary schools.
Already a qualified coach or leader?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Anyone with a wealth of coaching experience and knowledge in athletics or other sports can enter the coaching pathway directly at an appropriate level.
Coach
Gain the knowledge and practical skills to plan, lead and evaluate athletics sessions, supporting athletes to develop skills across running, jumping and throwing.
Athletics Coach Additional Elective Modules
Additional modules aimed at a qualified Athletics Coach who wishes to undertake an additional event group elective (Speed / Endurance / Jumps / Throws).
Event Group Jumps
Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years).
Event Group Throws
Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years).
Event Group Sprints and Hurdles
Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years).
Event Group Endurance
Specific coaching to for those involved in coaching at the Event Group development stage (typically 14-18 years).
Coach in Running Fitness
Develop the skills to coach runners aged 12+ across road, trail, cross country and other off-track environments, helping them to improve fitness and achieve their goals.
Fell, Hill, Off Road and Trail Module - Leader
For those who have completed the standard LiRF and who now wish to lead groups safely on more challenging terrains and more remote areas.
