Indoor international opportunities for 2020 – selection policies announced

England Athletics will once again be taking England teams to a number of indoor international fixtures. These events include teams competing in Vienna, Bratislava, Reykjavik and Linz.

These competitions are to provide international opportunities for the best athletes in England at the point of selection and for athletes judged to have the potential to represent England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The dates of these competitions are:

  • Élan Indoor Meeting (Bratislava, Slovakia): 26 January 2020
  • Vienna Indoor Classic (Austria): 1 February 2020
  • R.I.G Reykjavik Indoor Games (Iceland): 2 February 2020
  • Gugl Indoor Meeting Linz (Austria): 8 February 2020

England Athletics Teams & Competitions Manager Andy Day said, “We know that these competitions are highly valued by the athletes. It is a great honour to represent your country and these meetings also provide our athletes important opportunities to develop and learn. We recognise that the sense of pride in an athlete representing England is something that is also shared by the club mates and training partners of those competing, and that seeing athletes competing in these events also gives something for other athletes to aspire to. I would encourage athletes and their coaches to ensure they have read the selection policies and made the relevant expressions of interest.”

All events will be considered separately, a maximum of two athletes can be selected for Vienna and Bratislava and one per event for Reykjavik and Linz.

Athletes and coaches interested in selection can assist in the process by putting forward expressions of interest in selection for specific competitions and events by 13 January. Selections will be made on Tuesday 14 January 2019; England Athletics selectors will make contact with selected athletes by Friday 17 January 2020
