About our Masters programme

England Athletics recognises that a significant amount of the membership of road running clubs is made up of runners aged over thirty-five years. The Age Group Masters competition programme recognises and rewards the significant contribution that these runners make to our sport.

Through an annual rolling programme of qualifying events and representative opportunities we provide Masters runners with a friendly competition format and the chance to earn themselves an England Age Group Masters vest.

Masters Programme qualifying and representative races

You should enter the actual race through the normal entry procedure on the race organiser's website and then register as a master with England Athletics through our online entry form on Roster Athletics.

Athletes must achieve a relevant qualification standard at the qualifying race or within three calendar months prior to the date of this race.

In order to be eligible for qualification you MUST register your intention to qualify in advance of the race using the Roster Athletics entry system. Retrospective registrations are not possible.

Please note as well as finishing in the top 3 of a qualifying race, athletes must achieve a relevant qualification standard at the qualifying race or within three calendar months prior to the date of the race.

England Masters Championships 2025

The British Masters Athletics Federation are hosting the Mallory Park Festival of Running on 3 May 2025. The event will include ultra distance, road relays and a 10 mile race around the circuit of Mallory Park race track.  The 10 mile race includes an open event, British Masters Athletics Championships, the England Masters Championships, and the Road Runners Club Championships. Please note the 10 mile race is not an England Masters qualification  or a representative race.

Representative races for 2025-2026

Masters 5k

Representative International Race for 2025: Shrewsbury 5k Festival  (17 May 2025).

This year's event takes place at the Shrewsbury Sports Village in Shrewsbury on a traffic free cycle circuit. As part of the development of the programme England Masters will have two teams competing at this year’s event. There will be:

  • England Masters A Team
  • England Masters Development Team 

The Development Team is a pathway for athletes who are aspiring to run in the ‘A’ race at future 5k events. 

The England 'A' and Development teams will be determined by selection, not via the qualification route, and based upon the criteria laid out in the Selection Policy document.  Selections will only be made from athletes who have expressed an interest in selection. To put yourself forward for selection please read this document carefully and then complete the relevant expression of interest form.  

Interested athletes should complete the following expression of interest form no later than 9am on 29 April, 2025.

Representative International Race for 2024-2025: AJ Bell Great North 10k (6th July)

Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom Armed Forces will be joining England and Wales in Newcastle.
