Snowdon International Mountain Race: team selection

The Snowdon Mountain race is one of the most popular races in the calendar, as well as being one of the toughest, as it tests your speed, climbing and descending skills to the limit.

This year it takes place on 20 July and we are pleased to announce an England team which is a good mix of experience and athletes making their England debuts. We’ve been able to select strong teams to compete in what’s a very tough mountain race.

  • Phillipa Williams (Dark Peak Fell Runners, Mark Croasdale)

Men's Team

Joe Steward is our leading athlete and is having another fantastic season on the mountains, at the recent European Off Road Running Championships he convincingly won the Elite Uphill Race and also helped GB&NI to the team gold medal. Joe was 1st at the Senior Home International Mountain Race for England and will be making his debut at Snowdon.

Grant Cunliffe will be making his 2nd appearance at Snowdon for England, after finishing 6th last year on a course cut short due to bad weather, Grant will be looking to improve his position hopefully on the full course, he was 4th in our trial race at Buttermere Sailbeck fell race to gain selection.

Ben Sharrock ran for England at the Senior Home International in 2022 and is making his 2nd England appearance after finishing 7th at the recent trial race, Ben is one of our leading U23 athletes.

Jack Wright will be making his England debut after finishing 8th at the recent trial, Snowdon will be a fantastic opportunity for Jack to compete in a high level International race.

Women's Team

Antonia Fan will be making her England debut at Snowdon after finishing 4th in the trial race at Buttermere to gain selection. Antonia is having a fantastic domestic season and recently won Duddon and Ennerdale Fell Races, two classic Lakeland races.

Eve Pannone has just come back from the European Off Road Running Championships where she finished 11th and helped GB&NI to win the team gold medal. Eve has come through the junior ranks and has also represented GB&NI at the the World Championships in Argentina and the European Championships in Zermatt, Switzerland in recent years. Eve was 2nd in the trial to gain selection for Snowdon.

Lex Whitaker will be making her senior England debut and is one of our top U23 athletes and is also currently leading the English U23 Fell Running Championships, Lex was 5th at Buttermere to gain selection.

Phillipa Williams has been struggling with injury most of the winter and is slowly coming back to form, Phillipa was 3rd at the trial race to gain selection and was 6th in the recent Senior Home International Mountain Race in Scotland, Phillipa was also 2nd at last year’s Snowdon Race.
