Seated Throws Coach Development Programme and Taster Session

Are you a para athlete looking to try something new? Are you a para athletics coach or an able-bodied throws coach? We have some exciting opportunities coming up for you.

In August, we're hosting our very first seated throws introductory session at Lee Valley. There will be a full day event for aspiring seated throws coaches and a taster session in the afternoon for para athletes to give it a go.

Seated Throws Coach Development Programme

Alison O'Riordan coachingAt England Athletics, we are passionate about giving athletes the opportunity to represent their country and over the last two Paralympic cycles we have seen a decline in the number of seated throwers representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland. To combat this, we're introducing the free Seated Throws Coach Development Programme to develop coaches across the country to deliver seated throws sessions and enable athletes to train and compete within the different seated disciplines. Applications will be open until 23 June 2024.

The Programme

The programme will consist of:

  • One theoretical and practical coach development workshop with world leading seated throws coach, Dr Alison O'Riordan (Lee Valley, 3 August 2024)*
  • One day mentored coaching with Alison (Loughborough, January 2024 - date TBC)
  • One online individual development meeting for all of the selected coaches (online - March 2024)

*Successful applicants will be eligible to apply for up to £100 as a bursary to support with travel and accommodation expenses.

  • Currently be coaching able-bodied or ambulant para throwers and want to broaden their knowledge.
