Mountain Running camp inspires junior international hopefuls

On Saturday 28 March, 18 aspiring international mountain runners met in Otley, West Yorkshire for an informative and fun day learning all things mountain running.

The camp is part of the mountain running talent pathway for juniors showing potential who wish to improve and are ready for international representation. Talks are delivered by experienced coaches, physiotherapists and sports scientists as well as inputs and insights from elite athletes.

The day kicked off with elite GB mountain runner Charlotte Rawstron informing the athletes of opportunities that are available in mountain running. She explained the selection process and what it was like to race both in the UK and overseas.

Following this informative session, the group next headed up to the Chevin where Emma Moran and Tom Adams put the athletes through their paces with an up and down hill session. Tom has pulled on the England vest a number of times, and Emma is also a very experienced athlete and has both competed and team managed for England.

After lunch Sam Green talked about the benefits of strength and conditioning to either prevent or recover from injury. The young athletes then designed their own circuit from this information.

The day finished off with a question and answer session, with the athletes asking some interesting and testing questions.

Organiser Sally Malir said:

"It was a brilliant day and I think it really helped the athletes build relationships with their peers - as well as learning in a stimulating and interesting way."
