National level event announcing with Rob Walker and Peter Matthews

England Athletics is providing an opportunity to learn about what goes on in the commentary box with Rob Walker and Peter Matthews.  However, to take advantage of this opportunity you need to register your interest, tell us a bit about yourself and send us your CV. You don't have to be an expert in broadcasting and this isn't a promise of a job at the end of summer, but it is a chance to get to grips with the basic skills involved in covering the sport and open the door to a fascinating industry. Expenses and training will be covered for successful applicants. Athletics is a sport heavily connected to Statistics, but you don't have to have an encyclopaedic level of knowledge to excel on this project. It's about having an instinct for the sport and a willingness to learn, prepare and dive in at the deep end.

Club level event announcing with Peter Matthews and Tony Miller

England Athletics are also organising three workshops aimed at anyone within a Club who would like to be able to commentate or announce at local leagues, club and county level events.  These will take the form of a 3 hour evening workshop (6pm-9pm) and hosted by Peter Matthews and Tony Miller. The workshop will cover Equipment and Facilities
Knowledge of athletes, events and rules, pre event preparation, personal attributes needed, and working methods including scheduling, who to liaise with, adjustment of style and information to the type of meeting and the sort of audiences that they attract, presentations, typesof public messages and Dos and Don'ts.  Also covered is the difference between stadium announcing and TV/Radio commentating and whether you are at a track & field, road, or cross-country event.
The first Club level event workshop will take place in Sheffield on Friday 22 February which is the night prior to the England Athletics Age Group championships. Equivalent workshops will take place in March in the South and Midlands areas.
