Celebrating 2025: A year of community, championships and club volunteers
From England Athletics indoor and outdoor championships to our volunteer awards and from Let’s Lift the Curfew to new partnership launches, this year has been a great one! So, as 2025 draws to a close, let’s look back through some of the athletics and running best bits from the year.
January
We kicked off 2025 at the National Running Show! It was a great weekend spent talking to a community of runners, discussing all that England Athletics has to offer and launching our brand new individual running membership, RUN:EA.
February
Throughout the winter months of January to March, we had athletes representing England across the road, track and field and cross country! There were a total of 12 teams competing at home and across Europe. Catch up with all of the team performances from across the year here.

March
In March, we reflected on an incredible 2025 indoor season! We saw amazing performances and an impressive number of spectators and officials supporting throughout. Huge congratulations to all who competed at indoors this season, we’re celebrating:
- 1560 participants
- 228 officials
- Over 1000 personal bests
- 82 gold medals
- 4 championship best performances
- Over 2300 spectators!
April
Across April, thousands of runners were gearing up for their various road marathons. This year, the Personal Best Foundation had a team of four fundraisers head to the streets of Paris to raise money for their very important cause – helping to change young lives through the power of athletics.
May
In May, we announced an exciting new partnership between England Athletics, Personal Best Foundation and Citroën with the support of Paralympian CBE Hannah Cockroft. Through this new partnership, Citroën is supporting England Athletics in growing opportunities for children and young people, allowing them to experience the benefits of athletics and running at an early age, and then continue throughout school and into adulthood. The partnership launch was a great success at Sowe Valley Primary School in Coventry.

This month also kicked off a series of RunTogether Roadshows across the country. Starting in Bristol and Brighton, we invited the RunTogether community to join us and connect with others in their local areas and to share ideas about the future of RunTogether.
June
Our sport wouldn’t be what it is today without the vital contributions of dedicated volunteers across the country. This year, National Volunteers Week and UK Coaching Week collided, and we shared some inspiring stories from volunteers across the country.

Our summer of championships was a huge success thanks to the support of all our staff, officials, and spectators. With the return of our U20, Senior & Para Championships, Age Group & Para Championships, and National Relay Championships, we saw some outstanding competition. This outdoor season, we celebrated:
- 15 championship best performances
- 780 personal bests
- 2968 athlete entries
- 62 club entries in our Relay Champs
Thank you to all of the athletes who competed and all of our volunteers who make our championships possible!
August
Having launched funetics multi-challenge earlier in the year, August saw the first pilot event hosted by Athletics Norfolk. This pilot gave over 130 primary school aged children the opportunity to development their fundamental movement skills and compete in athletics. Keep an eye on our channels for updates as we look to launch this programme more widely in 2026.

September saw the return of our annual Regional Volunteer Awards, where we celebrated the incredible volunteers from across each of the nine regions. Catch up with our 2025 award winners here. This year, we also welcomed clubs from across the regions to our Club Forums – an opportunity to meet, network and learn from other clubs and speakers.

October
Coinciding with World Mental Health Day (10 October), #RunAndTalk week returned for 2025. It was great to see 72 groups dedicating runs to prioritise mental health and giving over 2,500 runners across the country a chance to talk and connect.
As the clocks went back at the end of October, we once again joined up with This Girl Can to highlight women’s concerns around getting active outdoors in the darker months and campaign for change. This year’s Let’s Lift the Curfew campaign saw over 350 dedicated runs with over 11,500 runners taking part, including over 70 runners at the flagship event in Peterborough. Let’s keep working together to bring about change.

In October, we were delighted to welcome new athletes and coaches on to our Talent Pathway. As we look ahead to the Commonwealth Games in 2026, the Para Academy and the Youth Talent, Talent Development and Performance Programmes will provide key support in athletes’ preparations.
November
November played host to National Development Day 2025, where the RunTogether community came together to learn, connect, and listen to inspiring speakers at Alexander Stadium. The day was packed with inspiration, with motivational talks, a resistance band workshop, and a tour of the stadium!
See what the RunTogether community got up toAt the end of the month, we also hosted our annual National Volunteer Awards. We celebrated winners across the 7 categories as we do every year following the celebrations at our Regional Volunteer Awards. Volunteers play such a huge role in our sport and we wouldn’t be here without them!

We once again shared our 12 days of Christmas running throughout December giving our community lots of festive ideas to get involved this month. Our RunTogether community really got into the festive spirit with lots of Christmas lights runs, food bank runs and Christmas dinner socials.

Season’s greetings from all at England Athletics and best wishes for the new year as we head into 2026!
