  • work with identified clubs to help develop their coaching structure and offer.

They will work approximately two days per month across each of the nine England Athletics regions.

The Regional Club Coaching Lead (RCCL) Team

Calling all Clubs

Part of the RCCL role will be to work with identified clubs in their region to help develop their Coaching structure and offer. Over the next month, England Athletics (through the Club Support Managers) will look to select a maximum of two clubs in each region to receive this support in year one. If you are interested, you will need to submit an Expression of Interest on the form below by Sunday 2 October 2022.

England Athletics will assess all Expressions of Interest and, if necessary, hold brief interviews with clubs before making a final selection. Clubs not selected in year one can apply again in year two or year three and England Athletics will support them with key areas of development identified through the assessment process. England Athletics anticipates all successful clubs will be selected and linked with an RCCL by the end of October 2022.

Why are we doing this?

We know that track and field participation levels in younger people have declined following the COVID pandemic and our clubs are struggling to recruit and retain young people in the sport. For many, the first formal entry point into our sport is the club environment and we want to support clubs to develop highly effective coaching structures that contribute to an overall positive experience in a safe and sustainable club environment. We want to help clubs create these structures and environments and showcase this success for other clubs to replicate across the country.

What can the identified club expect from the RCCL project?

The RCCL will:

  • Work with you to review your club’s existing coaching programmes and coaching structure to ensure it provides the best possible support to athletes at every stage of the pathway
  • Support your clubs’ current coaches and those wishing to become coaches with goal setting and ongoing development
  • Work with you to explore how you can recruit new coaches to the club
  • Explore how you can use coaches at your club and across the wider region to provide mentoring support to your club’s

What commitment does my club need to demonstrate to be selected?

  • Buy-in from the management committee at the club (successful clubs will be asked to sign a Service Level Agreement)
  • Commitment to developing your coaching workforce
  • Commitment to enhancing your coaching structure
  • Be open to new ideas
  • Demonstrate good governance and operate in line with England Athletics’ Club Standards
  • Support and help other clubs by showcasing successes
  • Commit to supporting England Athletics review and improve the project over three-years.
