Track Nights returns for 2022!

England Athletics are pleased to announce that the application process for our Track Nights Programme is now open. Applications will be taken until Sunday 17 July 2022.

Track Nights is a programme funded by England Athletics to support the development of running, jumping and throwing activity across England Athletics affiliated clubs.  The programme matches up experienced coaches with clubs who have requested support in a particular event or event group.  The experienced visiting coach attends 3 sessions at the club to work with the club’s coaches and athletes.

The sessions may include further understanding of technical development models, training methods, physical preparation or diagnostics.  Through these Track Nights visits our aim is to support the development of the coaches' knowledge and skills, as well as increase their confidence and potential to access further education and opportunities.

Phoenix Flyers experienced Track Night sessions last year. Since then, One of their throwers now involved in those weekly sessions won a medal at the North East Champs. Mark Ellis from the club reported:

Track Nights was a great opportunity for our coaches to learn more and we’ve gone on to now offer a weekly throws group to help to develop our young athletes and we’ve seen many new PBs as well as introducing more athletes to throwing and giving them the chance to try a range of throws with adapted equipment.

The programme gave our coaches additional skills and the confidence to be able to deliver a weekly throws session and we know that further support is there when we need it.  Being part of the programme has given us a great boost and allowed us to further develop the run, jump and throw opportunities that we offer our young athletes.
