England U20s beat Welsh and Armed Forces teams at Cardiff 5k

The annual 'we run the streets' Cardiff Vitality 5k took place on Sunday 1 May in Whitchurch, Cardiff. This fast spectator-lined course incorporated the Welsh 5k Road Racing Championships and a Home Countries teams international.

It's the sixth year this event has taken place and it has proved to be a fast course. Previous records were broken with near to perfect weather conditions; Jake Smith won with a new course record of 13.58 and PB, and the first female in was Danielle Hodgkinson with a big PB of 15.51.

The England Under 20 team took on the Welsh Senior and U20 team, Senior Area teams and the Armed Forces team in an exciting race, all athletes showing maturity and an exciting future over the distance. For England, it was a successful evening with 8 out of the 8 athletes gaining a new PB. Both the England men and women won the U20 team prize.

Team manager Hayley Hemmings said, "These young athletes are definitely ones to watch for the future. It was an incredible experience for such talented athletes."
