England Masters Age Group Marathon: 2017-2018 Representative Opportunities

England Athletics are delighted to announce that we will once again be offering England Athletics registered runners the chance to qualify to represent their country at Masters age group level.

On Sunday 8th October at the MBNA Chester Marathon around 200 club runners in the age groups V35 through to V75 will don the England vest in a representative team competition having qualified to compete last autumn and earlier this Spring. The team will take on a Celtic Nations team.

In partnership with three of the country’s best marathon races we will once again be offering participants the chance to represent their country at Masters age group level in an autumn marathon in 2018.

Each of the three partner marathons will act as a qualifying race, with the top five EA-registered runners in each masters age category at each race who have opted in to the qualifying system, guaranteeing themselves a place in the England team.

Chris Jones, CEO of England Athletics, says, “At England Athletics we are constantly looking for ways to inspire more people to run and to provide opportunities for registered members of our affiliated clubs. We are absolutely delighted to be working with some of the country’s top marathon races to help motivate and reward club members for their dedication to the sport.”

In addition to hosting the 2017 England Age Group Representative Team competition MBNA Chester Marathon will also offer age group runners the chance to challenge for a place on next year’s team. Alongside Chester we are also delighted that participants at both the 2017 Bournemouth Marathon and 2018 Brighton Marathon will have the chance to qualify.

England Athletics is committed to providing further opportunities for age group runners and later this autumn we will be announcing further opportunities for age group masters runners at other distances on the road, so please look out for our news bulletins and up-dates.

Good for age entries are still open for both Chester and Bournemouth Marathons and Brighton Marathon entries will be announced soon.

Please note the following:

It is the responsibility of individual runners to enter their chosen qualifying marathon. The usual entry fees apply. If you are successful in qualifying for the England Representative event, runners will bear the costs of travel to the marathon and the entry fee for the race. Team kit will be available for purchase.

How to Register:

If you have already entered this year’s MBNA Chester or Bournemouth Marathons you can register your interest to be considered for selection at: www.englandathletics.org/masters-marathon-2018

To register an intention to qualify for the England Age Group team, runners must either:

- Submit their name, club, age group, England Athletics registration number and event entered at www.englandathletics.org/masters-marathon-2018 (You must complete this form before the day of the race that you will be competing in).

Or

- Select the option at the point of entry to qualifying marathon

Only England Athletics registered athletes who have registered their intention to qualify are eligible.

Selections will also be subject to current competitive fitness.
