England International Opportunities at Road Races 2016-17

England Athletics is pleased to be able to offer athletes the opportunity to gain selection to represent their country at a series of road running events this autumn and winter.

In particular we value the importance of competitive road running opportunities for athletes in preparation for the 2018 Commonwealth Games Team middle and long distance events. England Athletics therefore intend to select athletes for competitive opportunities who the Selection Panel believes have the potential to challenge for selection in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Team.

There are a number of events where England teams will be competing and we advise athletes to view these opportunities and the associated selection policies at www.englandathletics.org/athletes/england-athletics-team/road-running.

England Athletics Road Running Coordinator, Charlotte Fisher, said, “England Athletics sees these international opportunities as a being a valuable opportunity for athletes who have ambitions with regards future Commonwealth, World and Olympic championships.
“We would encourage athletes to take the time to look at the policies with their coaches and to factor the selection criteria into their planning.
“We would wish all the athletes who will be seeking selection every success over the coming months and years as they seek to develop and progress to the best of their abilities.”

As well as noting the specific criteria for selection for an event athletes should note that performances at the relevant England Athletics championships will be prioritised when considering athlete performances.
