Why have you created this membership?

We have created this membership following feedback from the running community, which indicates that some people want a membership with England Athletics but aren’t prepared to become a club member (yet).  

The income from this membership will be reinvested in our work across the sport, including the club network and growing participation.

It conflicts with what we’re trying to do with our club. How are we supposed to grow our club?

This membership shouldn’t conflict with what you are doing at your club, as it is aimed at individuals who are not club members and perhaps aren’t ready to join a club. Once they are a member of England Athletics, we will provide them with information on their local clubs and events, so that they can choose whether to join a club or not.

Who is the membership aimed at?

The membership is aimed at individual adult runners who are not members of a club/do not wish to be a member of a club at this time.

Is England Athletics creating its own virtual club?

No, this is a membership with England Athletics as a governing body and is not intended to replace what our clubs provide.

Who should we speak to at England Athletics about this membership?

Please speak to the Membership Engagement Team if you have any questions or concerns.

What are you doing with the income that you are getting from the new membership?

The income from this membership will be reinvested in our work across the sport, including supporting the club network and growing participation. We are also seeking feedback and input from clubs as to how we might best invest this income.

Can people with this membership enter our events?

They can enter road and multi-terrain running events via our RunEvents platform but cannot do so on behalf of a team or club, they need to join a club to do that.

How come the membership benefits are different to club membership benefits?

To differentiate between this and club membership, we are offering a different set of benefits, in part because they are aimed at a different audience. These benefits will be confirmed in future communications.

What if one of our members asks how they get access to the benefits of your new membership?

We are considering options for club members to access the benefits available to non-club members, however this is not currently an option.

What if one of our members wants to change from club membership to the new membership?

We will always encourage club members to keep their current membership, however in this instance they would need to speak with the Membership Engagement Team to discuss their options.

What do we do if someone wants to join our club but already has one of these new memberships?

We will help you and the member change their membership to a club membership. The member can decide if they want a refund for the remainder of their annual RUN:EA subscription fees (pro-rata, less an admin fee). Please ask them to contact the Member Engagement Team at registration@englandathletics.org

Should members buy this membership instead of their usual club membership?

No, members should keep their club membership – this is not intended to replace club membership. Members should only buy this if they no longer want to be a part of your/a club. 

Can members use this membership to compete in events?

To compete in club or team events or any licensed competition under UKA rules that mandates an athlete registration (including all track and field competition, all cross-country competition and some road and off-road running events) one would have to be a member of an affiliated club. Therefore RUN:EA members would not be eligible for these competitions. Run:EA membership can be used for road and multi-terrain running events only, entered via our RunEvents platform.

Does it mean members get to run for an England Athletics team?

No, there is no team or club linked to this membership.

How much will it cost?

The subscription is currently £30 per year.

How will members access the membership benefits?

We are working on a website for members to access their member benefits. More details will be released when we have them.

Is there a junior/youth version of this membership?

No, not currently. We may develop this in the future.

Can members pay monthly?

No, not currently.

Can members pay by direct debit?

No, not currently. Fees will be taken annually from the payment card, as is typical with other subscriptions.

Can I set up a membership on behalf of someone else (e.g. who does not have access to the internet)?

Can I cancel my membership if I am injured and can’t run?

No, there is no option for a mid-subscription cancellation or payment holiday currently.

I am not a resident of England, can I still sign up?

Yes, you can! Some partner benefits/discounts may not be available to overseas residents.
