Event Licensing

How Licensing Works

You apply for a road or multi-terrain licence via our RunEvents licensing system paying a non-refundable deposit for the application. As part of this process we ask a series of questions about the event. This is reviewed by our Regional Panel of experts who may check information and documentation with you.

During the application process you will be required to select an Event Adjudicator. The Event Adjudicator is independent of the organising body and checks that all licence standards are followed, and UKA Rules upheld. The Event Adjudicator attends the event in person and completes a report which is shared with England Athletics and the Race Director post event.

Once the licence is granted you can brand your event as officially licensed by RunEvents which demonstrates to all that it meets high quality standards and levels of safety and follows UKA Rules and England Athletics Licence Standards (PDF 271kb).

All organisations who hold event licences are affiliated to England Athletics and are automatically covered by up to £50 million public liability insurance. This policy for the sport has a claims history going back over 20 years.

A licence can be obtained for individual races at an event, a series of races or for a multi-day event. A maximum of twelve races held over a twelve month period can be licensed under one event series. There are two types of race series, which are explained at the start of the application process. You can not apply for a licence for an event that starts in less than 28 days.

As soon as a licence application is made and before the licence is granted, the race details are added to our Events Finder so that runners can find your event.

As part of licensing your road running or multi-terrain race with RunEvents you agree to offer a minimum £2 discount to all club runners who are registered with their National Governing Body.

Event Finder and Power of 10/runbritain Rankings
