Our terrific tutors

As 2022 unfolds, our tutors have been working hard to deliver courses in all five disciplines, both online and face-to-face, across the country.

Our tutor workforce is comprised of many experienced officials who give up their free time to pass on their knowledge and skills gained over the years to support and develop the next generation of officials who share the same passion of our fantastic sport. England Athletics cannot thank each tutor enough for their hard work, commitment, and free time in facilitating courses and candidates have not been shy in providing positive feedback from recent officials’ courses. Some examples of different candidate feedback are:

Candidate 1: “I found the session really interesting and informative and must commend you [the tutor] on the way that you kept everyone engaged. I for one am really motivated to find another two events where I can hopefully fulfil my accreditation obligations and begin my officiating journey.”

Candidate 2: “I have just completed my level 1 starters course. I just wanted to let England Athletics know how wonderful a teacher he was. Obviously, he was very insightful but was also very encouraging. I look forward to progressing further in this officiating sphere.”

Candidate 3: “I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to run through the level 1 Track course recently.  I enjoyed the course, learned lots of detail and had a number of questions answered.  I will now be focussing on participating at more events for experience.”

During the last couple of months, a hybrid model has been adopted, to enable both face to face and virtual officials’ courses to take place. This has proved popular with many officials able to attend courses, meaning the accessibility of the sport is maintained. Moving forward, we will be actively promoting the hybrid model of course delivery with face-to-face and online courses being promoted to maximise accessibility of courses to individuals across England.

Within England Athletics, we are acutely aware as a sport we need to embrace change, including the format and platform, how officials’ courses and education is delivered and will be engaging with officials at all levels to ensure this wonderful sport continues to be welcoming for everyone to enjoy for many years to come.
