Volunteers and Coaching Week – England Athletics Award winner focus Aston Moore

Aston Moore
As an athlete Aston had personal bests of 16.86 (17.02w) for triple jump and 7.76 for long jump. He won bronze in the Commonwealth Games in 1978 and 1982, plus bronze at European Indoors. But after hanging up his spikes Aston has gone on to great success as a coach.
Aston has a wealth of athletes to his name, with a significant number of athletes he has coached performing fantastically on not only a National stage, but on the international scene as well! His work with para-athletes Stephanie Reid and Olivia Breen led them both to World Titles during 2017 in front of their home crowd. Both athletes sing the praises of Aston and the support he has provided them to enable them to reach the heights they are at. Stephanie says, “I am so thankful to my coach who has worked so hard for this.” And Olivia, “I want to say a big thank you to my coach Aston Moore who has been amazing and helped me improve my jumping.”
Alongside his work with hugely successful para-athletes, Aston also works with several other athletes whose recent successes might be familiar! Decathlete Ashley Bryant finished 11th in the IAAF World Championships, with Birchfield Harriers Feron Sayers and Sineade Gutzmore both finishing 2nd in the British Outdoor Championships in the men’s Long Jump and Women’s triple jump, respectively.
In the past he has worked with athletes including Ashia Hansen, current UK and former world record holder for indoor triple jump, and former World, European and Commonwealth champion and Olympic silver medallist Phillips Idowu.
Aston has proven on multiple occasions the class of his coaching. Congratulations Aston!
