Team of eight announced for Trofeo Opitergium road races in Italy

England Athletics are delighted to announce a strong team of eight under 20 athletes to compete at the Trofeo Opitergium over 5km and 10km in Italy on 16 September.

The women's team includes Rebecca Flaherty (Bingley), ranked 1st English under 20 athlete over 5000m in 2023 and arrives in excellent form after a silver medal over 3000m at the English Schools' AA Championships. After an excellent 12 months of performances Libby Huxley (Preston) is selected after running 9:38.89 over 3000m and inside 16:55 over 5000m twice this season. Lily Neate (Winchester) set a 5km PB of 17:01 when representing England at the Cardiff 5k earlier this year and has had a fine season which included a bronze medal a the National XC Champs in February. Faye O'Hare (Liverpool Harriers) is also selected after showing excellent form on the roads running 16:54 at the senior England Champs at the Mid Cheshire 5k in April. 

The men's team sees Joseph O'Connell (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) selected after a fantastic season which included a 31:30 10km and a 5000m PB of 14:26.44. He is joined by Ethan Primett (Herts Phoenix) who has also seen signficant progression this season including PBs of 14:26.05 over 5000m and 8:27.76 over 3000m. Samuel Burkitt (Ipswich) has a PB of 30:49 on the roads and gains selection after an excellent 31:42 over 10000m in April. Jamie Richardson (West Cheshire) gains seelction after dmeonstrating excellent form on the roads running 14:41 to finish 17th at the England Senior 5k Championships in April.
