Team announced for Masters 10k

We are pleased to announce the masters athletes who have qualified to compete and earn themselves an England Age Group Masters vest for the Bideford 10k race. They will compete against teams from Wales, Northern Ireland and UK Armed Forces.

The qualification races were hotly contested; masters aimed for qualifying standards in the 2025 AJ Bell Birmingham Great Run 10k, 2025 Bideford 10k, 2025 Green Park Reading 10k, 2025 Brighton 10k, and 2026 Keith Hall (Thorney) 10k.

This is the first time an England Athletics affiliated club have hosted the representative race and Bideford AAC are very excited. A total of 10 Bideford AAC members have qualified: 73-year-old John Shapland finished just outside the M70 medals last year, but perhaps the home crowd will urge him on to a podium position. Club mate John O’Donoghue (M40) is also looking forward to competing - he lives and works in Bideford as a teacher and expects his students will be out on the course supporting him. John is making his international debut having driven for six hours to race in the qualifier at Thorney.

Last year's 10k winner, Dean Williamson will contest once again in the M35 category. He is opting this year to run for England rather than the UK Armed Forces, in whose vest he not only won the M35 category but the Great North 10 title which was last year's representative race.

Also hoping to defend their masters titles will be Brian Corleys (Bushfield Joggers) and Suzy Rushforth (Brighton Phoenix) - both in the V50 category. Plus we shouldn't ignore England Athletics' very own Masters Road Running Coordinator Chris Hollinshead (Cannock & Stafford AC) who qualified this year too and will take on the 10k in the M60 age category.
